According to the Census and Statistic Department of Hong Kong, an average of 50,000 couples gets married annually. In Hong Kong, traditional Chinese practice dictates the serving of shark fin soup in wedding banquets to symbolise hopes for a long-lasting marriage - but inhumane practises of shark finning have caused drastic environmental effects.
Andrea Richey has an extensive background in law and the corporate world. In her talk "They Call be the Shark Lady", she outlines her inspirations to quit her corporate job to join the Hong Kong Shark Foundation in 2015. Determined to raise awareness about shark conservation, Andrea has proactively taken a stand against shark finning, becoming the education director of HKSF, sharing why she so firmly believes in shark conservation.
