The TEDxSouthPasadenaHigh event is open to high school students and the surrounding community (teachers, staff, parents, & other community members). TEDxSouthPasadenaHigh will showcase TED Talks and SPHS speakers, discussing overarching themes regarding diversity and breaking through boundaries. Our goal is to give voice to demographics that often do not have a voice, as well as to break down borders.

Alexandra Gossett

Student
Alex Gossett is a 16 year old, Junior, attending South Pasadena High School. Her interests include theater, acting, medicine, and cats. Her favorite color is pink, but you’ll only ever catch her wearing black yoga pants. She was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome at age 12 and her passion for speaking about invisible disability sparked when she got diagnosed. Through her TED Talk she hopes to bring awareness to this issue.

Claire Mao

Student
Claire Mao has yet to finish her first year of highschool. Despite being a freshman, she has always been passionate about Speech and Debate. In her free time, she loves to spend time with her family, draw, and have her day filled with laughter.

Elisa Argus

Student
At South Pasadena High School Elisa Argus serves as the captain of the Speech and Debate team, president of the band, and treasurer of the psychology club. She is a boba-loving, baking aficionado who enjoys sewing, listening to music, and spending time with her sister. She is passionate about mental health awareness and improvement.

Florence Jones

Florence Jones is a junior at South Pasadena High School. She enjoys listening to indie music, being a mother to her 3 rescue cats, traveling, crocheting sweaters, and browsing bookstores. She is an iced oat milk latte enthusiast, and you will rarely catch her writing poetry without one. Florence is passionate about mental health, psychology, English class, and the arts— especially creative writing.

Jay Chen

Student
Jay Chen is a junior at South Pasadena High School. They spent 14 years as a part of an international cult. They are a second generation Taiwanese immigrant, who studied there for a year. In their free time, Jay enjoys artistic activities, especially graphite and watercolor painting.

Jordan Cutler

Student
Jordan Cutler is a junior in high school. She is a hardworking woman and a level 10 national qualifier in gymnastics. She is dedicated to all aspects of her life including school, athletics, and her family.

Julia Santos

Student
Julia Santos is a junior at South Pasadena High School. She is on the track and cross country team. As a pastime she enjoys hiking, or being anywhere outdoors with nature. She is planning on studying kinesiology as her major in college. In her Tedx Talk, she talks about how there are many movements and messages in social media that don’t completely align with what you may believe in.

Maya Lee

Student
Maya is a junior at South Pasadena High School. Her pastimes include art, crochet, calisthenics, and spending time with her sister. She is on the SPHS track and cross country teams. Maya plans to study biology in college.

Mia Tavera

Student
Mia is a junior at South Pasadena High School. She has been in the drama pathway since she was a freshman and is now the treasurer of the drama club. She has been part of the acting community since she was in 4th grade, when she was in her elementary school musical. When Mia was a sophomore, she was a producer for both the high school play Middletown and its musical Freaky Friday. She has grown to have a passion for being on stage as well as behind the stage.

Noble Jones

Noble Jones is an aspiring actor and the current SPHS Commissioner Of Assemblies. He's been working to bring a new kind of entertainment and student involvement to the school assemblies through his own unique creative perspectives. From preschool to 6th grade, Noble attended a Montessori school by the name of Oak Knoll, in which he took on an extremely unique form of education that has shaped his ability to deal with large-scale change and disheartening failure. With a long lasting and genuine love for performance, Noble hopes to find a spot in the entertainment industry and make his own creative changes with the use of his learned mentality.

Omar Soufi

Student
Omar Soufi is a 16 year old artist, and varsity shot putter for SPHS. Omar strives to exemplify his faith as a Muslim through his character. Omar says, “If everybody gave something to someone else, we’d all have more.”

Safi Majumdar

Student
Safiyah Majumdar is a sixteen-year-old living in the big state of California. She was born in Chicago Illinois, but later moved to California in 2022 and has been attending South Pasadena High School since. Her family is well averse to traveling and exploring new cultures. She herself is half Japanese and half Bengali. During her free time, she likes to explore new music, bake cakes, and spend time with her loved ones.
