Theme: Artificial Intelligence and Personhood

"We have advanced far enough in our development of Artificial Intelligence to understand that we are in danger of losing control of it. ...This means that we are designing ourselves out of our lives," writes Eve Poole (Robot Souls, author).

What does it mean to be a person? Are there absolute attributes of personhood? While the challenges of an evolving AI-driven societal transformation continue to be defined and debated, it is important to consider the potential impact of such technology on human identity. This new order of techne will pose tremendous opportunities for human advancement if managed properly. The perils of mismanagement may erode the very definition of the human person.
