Theme: Unearthing local voices

What is TEDx? In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events licensed by TED.

Our event is called TEDxSanatNagarWomen, where x = independently organized TED event and women represents the category of our license. At our event, accomplished and upcoming Kashmiri women will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, includ- ing ours, are self-organized.

Our theme, unearhting local voices seeks to bring to light the knowledge, passion and creativity of Kashmiri women who aren't a part of mainstream discourse. The day will span from the dark, chilling side of unimaginable events that make way for life lessons, to the bright, thought- provoking side of life-altering ideas explored for the first time.

Aleeza Qadir

Student/Researcher

Aleeza Qadir is a 12th grader interested in exploring law and politics. At present, she is a fellow at the Young Kashmir Research Society and her work explores the mental health conditions of women in Kashmir.

Areej Safvi

Artist

Syed Areej Safvi, 25, has apparently become the first woman in Kashmir to write and perform Ladishah – a form of satire in verse, making commentaries on social and political conditions in the society. It is a type of folk ballad with humour forming an essential part of its presentation.

Nazish Mir

Entrepreneur

Nazish is a delhi based entrepreneur of Kashmiri origin. Her brand, Laiqa offers a range of chlorine-free, pH compatible, and eco friendly period products. Through her venture she aims to challenge the taboo surrounding menstruation and promote better menstural care.

Sadiya Nisar

Author

Having authored two books at the tender age of 18, Sadiya is a budding author from downtown Srinagar. She finds herself particularly interested in sufism, and has incorporated themes from the same in her work.
