Theme: Climate Summit for Young and Emerging Leaders

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Isabella Poll

Youth Leader

Isabella is a youth change-maker and leader in environmental sustainability. As the Youth Board President of Millennium Kids, Isabella is leading a team of youth leaders in creating a framework which trains young people to run facilitated conversations (called Deliberations) in their communities. These events educate communities about climate challenges, facilitate critical thinking, and create projects which align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Jacob Martin

Nanotechnologist

Jacob is a materials scientist and nanotechnologist working on climate-stabilising technologies. Jacob has run the gamut in renewable/climate research, including biomass-to-power, algae biofuels, solar photovoltaics, carbon capture, pollution reduction and carbon materials for hydrogen storage, water filtration and batteries. Jacob completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge in 2019. In 2021 he took up a Forrest Fellowship in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Curtin University in Perth, Australia working on advanced carbon materials for decarbonisation.

Josh Hopkins

Social Entrepreneur

Josh is an award-winning social entrepreneur with over a decade of experience in innovation and technology. He is the founding director of Open Corridor, a data-driven non-profit, focused on resilient communities and long-term sustainability. In 2020, he was awarded EU funding to develop digital tools to support cities in the race to net-zero. Josh is the Innovation Lead at Impact Seed, an EIT (European institute of Innovation and Technology) alumni, and associate at CUSP (Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute).

Matilda Peters

Carbon neutrality advocate

Matilda is a graduate of Curtin University with a degree in Human Resources and Industrial Relations and a postgraduate diploma in Occupational Health and Safety. She is now working as an HSEQ Advisor for Atlas Professionals, covering both Australia and New Zealand.

Shannon Algar

Applied Mathemetician

Dr. Shannon Algar is an applied mathematician using sophisticated modelling techniques to understand complex, real-world systems, like the timing of ice ages and species extinction. Shannon is a post-doctoral researcher and Forrest Prospect Fellow with the Complex Systems Group at the University of Western Australia. Her research is centred around systems modelling, covering broad areas of Complexity, Swarm Intelligence, Reservoir Computing, Topological Data Analysis and Time Series Analysis.
