This 22-year-old illusionist and psychosomatic counselor comes with a bag of fifteen years of experience, making her a bundle of confidence and understanding. She is brimming with positive energy, always spreading a smile and cheer to those around her. She began her career as a magician and has performed for audiences all around the world with her characteristic style of hand manipulations and world-class illusions. This home-schooled student has even authored a few books including the popular ‘Unleash your Hidden Powers’ and conducts seminars all over the country. Vivek Karunakaran is a graduate of NIFT, Chennai and the winner of the Best Constructed Design Award for his immaculate collection Pavillion de Desir. He began his fashion career as Creative Head of Isex Fashions and has put together collections for various brands such as Zara, Brooksfield and Kenzo. In the fall of 2006, he partnered with Shreya Kamalia to launch his own label ‘Viia by Vivek Karunakaran’. Over the years, he has been associated with many prestigious events including Pantaloons Femina Miss India as well as many global personalities in cinema, music and sport. He draws inspiration from his favourite things or simply his state of mind at that moment in time.
Sonal Kapoor is the Founder CEO of PROTSAHAN India and is considered one of the most inspiring young social entrepreneurs of our time. A Microbiologist-MBA who gave up her ‘mainstream’ job, right at 23, this young woman started a youthful and a vibrant social impact organization for sex abused and drug abused street kids, special kids and their mothers. Understanding that rote learning would not make sense to girls from red light areas, she innovated through the creativity of Design, Cinema, Art and Photography to teach them and works with her team tirelessly to change hundreds of lives each day. The youngest sociopreneur woman ever to represent India at The World Bank, speak at several international organizations of repute, she is an inspiration who stands for a cause. Chosen as one of the three youngest changemakers at the recently held Think Fest 2012 at Goa, she is youth icon as widely recognized by Economic Times, CII and a dozen corporate houses. The girl with a funny bone and an ability to make 50 year old Ministers uncomfortable in their chair, this young ceo represents a young Indian woman, who actually went out to do something about changing the world for its children.
Avijit is a filmmaker, actor, theatre director and communications consultant living and working out of New Delhi. He took his MA from Calcutta University in English and began with being Senior English Master, St. Paul’s School, Darjeeling. He has also been Creative Director of leading Advertising Agencies of India. Currently he's President Marcom of Olive Telecom. He's acted and directed for Theatre and TV. And acted in eminent films including Fire, Kamasutra, Peepli Live, No One Killed Jessica, Gandhi to Hitler (as Gandhi) etc. He teaches Communication. His own featurette on Child Abuse, Akkar Bakkar was screened in the Parliament and the Cannes Film Festival last year, and extensively used for Advocacy by UNIFEM.
BALA is a self-taught cartoonist based in Chennai, born on August 9, 1980. His native place is Tirunelveli; he was born and brought up in Mumbai. He is a full time Political Cartoonist who challenges most of the politicians today. Earlier he was working as a General Assistant for a Chartered Accountant Firm. Due to his love, interest and passion towards journalism, he joined “MUMBAI TAMIL TIMES” as a Sub-Editor cum Cartoonist in the year 2001. Since from 2005 he is working as a full time Cartoonist in `KUMUDAM', a leading Tamil Weekly Magazine. And additionally he used to give few write-ups and discussion in critical issues. KUMUDAM publications published his two cartoon books titled “NATTU NADAPPU” and “EEZHAM – AANMAAVIN MARANAM”.
J.A.Jayanth, driven by divine in-born talent and bubbling enthusiasm in bamboo flute, has given more than 650 solo flute concerts at various centres in India and abroad. He is the grandson and disciple of flute maestro T.S.SANKARAN. Jayanth gave his first solo flute concert at the age of seven. He has had various articles and concert reviews appearing in leading newspapers and various musical journals providing testimony to his talent. Jayanth's musical journey is well documented in his CD albums, the latest ones being 'Mesmorising Flute Melodies', 'A Tribute to the Maestro - Flute Mali' and 'Retro to Raagas - Fusion with the Bamboo Touch'. He has a refined fingering and blowing technique allowing him to switch over to the bass and double bass flutes with ease to cover lower octaves, a hallmark in his recitals. He is a recipient of many awards including the Best Instrumentalist Award from Music Academy in 2010.
Maalavika Manoj is a 19 year old singer-songwriter. A 2nd year BBA student in Loyola College, she was selected to represent India in a leadership summit held at Harvard University in 2010, where she presented a community service plan on Women's Empowerment, and is an ambassador for the Girl Child Project in Tamil Nadu. She is currently producing her solo album titled 'Deceptive' which is set to release in the next few months where she has written, sung, composed and arranged the music. Having lent her voice to playback singing for movies such a '3', 'Kaleeyugam' and 'Haridas', and featuring in actor Dhanush's Sachin Anthem she is also experimenting with different styles and genres of music.
Hailing from Nottingham, England, Pete Draper is a CG artist with close to 20 years experience. Having occupied various positions like Director of Visual Effects, Lead and Senior Artist and Head of Media in the past, today he is the co-founder of Makuta Visual Effects. Apart from writing for numerous publications, his book "Deconstructing the Elements" deals with the recreation of natural elements with CG. He teaches students at animation festivals like Animex and was also nominated for an Autodesk Masters award in 2007. He was one of the Visual Effects Supervisor of the technically acclaimed blockbuster Eega, along with an enviable list of movies that include Naan Ee, Endhiran, Magadheera, and Ghajini, to name a few.
Rohini Rau is an Olympic Campaigner - Sailing, a medical student and a trustee of The Little Theatre all in one! She started sailing at the age of 10 and is currently ranked 94 in the ISAF World Ranking. In May 2009, she became the first Indian woman to win a medal at a Grade 3 Olympic event. She is currently doing her third year undergraduate course in medicine and has learnt classical dance, piano, tap dancing, jazz ballet and the violin. Added to all of this, she sang playback for the Tamil movie ‘3 Roses’ and is the Vice Curator of the Chennai hub of the Global Shapers Community, an initiative of the World Economic Forum
Sameer Bharat Ram
A first generation entrepreneur who runs a Water management company, A brand consulting firm and also publishes and edits a Film,Music and art magazine called The Brew. One of his companies also works a lot with promoting and marketing films and music. A management graduate,Sameer,has trained with HLL and has had successful stints with other large companies like the Mahindra Group and Ogilvy and Mather. His passion lies in building sustainable brands/businesses.
Sharanya Haridas is the Founder, C.E.O & Editor-In-Chief of That’s So Gloss!- India’s first ever webzine and online community exclusively for young women . An offshoot of a previous venture, Young Folks Media, it has received international praise for its pioneering media blueprint. She is a writer, presently working on her second manuscript of poems and a young adult novel. Her first collection of poems The Tramp Speaks (2010) was critically acclaimed as “a tremendous debut” and she was a featured poet at the Muse India Hyderabad Literary Festival ’10. She has previously done research work for the UNICEF and IDASA in Zambia. Sharanya is an undergraduate Economics major at IIT Madras and a Ryerson Digital Media Zone International Fellow 2012.
Sean Rolden & Friends
Sean Rolden & Friends is an acoustic setup with some of the best session artistes in India. The group has a completely new approach to sound and artistic expression, blending south Asian and Western ideas in the craziest possible fashion. Sean Rolden, also known as R Raghavendra, is a professional Carnatic classical musician with a love for blues and country music styles. Pradeep Kumar, a trained Carnatic vocalist, is a performer with concerts all over the world in his kitty. With experience in Tamil film music as well, he is even a self-taught Western musician, being a guitar player. Allywn Jeya Paul plays in Benny Dayal’s band Funk Jazz Band Groove #3 and is a renowned Afro Cuban Percussionist in India. Having collaborated with numerous international artists, he has been an invaluable member in all major gospel concerts in India. The final member of the band, Napier Naveen Kumar, is a Grade 8 Bass Guitarist from Trinity School of Music. Having accompanied multiple celebrated international musicians, he is the fourth wheel of an extremely competent musical band.
