TEDxKhaitanPublicSchool is an independently organized online TED Countdown event being held on the 10th of October 2020. This date is the global launch of the TEDx Countdown for Climate Change.

This is a virtual event that will be hosted to hear from leading thinkers and doers about what a healthy, abundant, zero-emission future can look like; stirring examples of real progress underway, and powerful reasons why this post-crisis moment is the time to act.

This global gathering will serve as an inspiration and a call to action to the world’s leaders — and to people everywhere — to step up and participate in building a better future.

Taking this and the motto of Khaitan Public School, of creating 'Leaders for Life', we have also introduced TEDx Student Talks wherein the kingpins of our future, the students, share their Ideas worth Spreading.

Anushka Bindra

Student, Athlete, Activist
Anushka Bindra is a 16-year-old junior in high school. She is a national level athlete and has won multiple medals at the national level for high jump. She enjoys studying economics and history and their connection to social issues that are prevalent today. She founded her organization ‘’Determined By Hope’’ in 2018 that aims to work with villages to improve their standard of living in accordance with the UN’s 17 Sustainable development goals by launching sub projects in the area. Today, she will be speaking about the environmental aspects of retail, the direction in which businesses are heading toward with the development of more sustainable models and the recent rise of social entrepreneurship.

Florian Goffin

Environmental Role Model
Florian Goffin, an environmental and sustainability role model. Florian, a lifelong international adventurer, who has been involved in sustainability development & awareness since a personal shift in 2013, will join us from Mexico. He has changed everything in his life to promote holistic, sustainable management. He chose to quit everything for a 14000km worldwide personal journey through 18 countries by bicycle to central America, being inspired & inspiring on his way to “Be the change we want to see”. This travel was a choice he made for a personal transformation & arrive where he would start his new project ‘Proyecto Yum kaax’, a sustainable community to help us re-connect with our own being & start really BEING that change. Connect with Florian to know more about how our personal choices have global impacts and be inspire to also start being the change you want to see!

Jhoomar Mehta

Policy Researcher
Jhoomar Mehta is a New Delhi based development finance and public policy researcher. Her key areas of expertise include development finance, green economy, climate change and international trade. She has worked with think tanks and the Indian government upon the same in the past. She holds a Master's degree in Globalization, Business and Development from Insitute of Development Studies in UK.

Kapil Sharma

Founder, Say Trees
Kapil Sharma, a software professional from Chattisgarh, moved to Bengaluru about 11 years ago and was shocked at the rate the city’s green cover was vanishing. Kapil soon started planting trees across the city during weekends. Fast forward thirteen years, and he has planted over 6,00,000 saplings all over Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Noida, Lucknow etc. He has also founded an NGO called SayTrees, dedicated to saving the environment and make the city greener by taking the message to different schools, institutions, villages, and communities. The initiative is creating forests in rural areas so the farmers may receive some help in procuring fruit saplings to earn a parallel income. Say Trees has also started to rejuvenate lakes. have rejuvenated 4 lakes so far.

Karan Bhasin

Economist, Columnist
Karan Bhasin is a young economist who holds a masters degree from TERI School of Advanced Studies and a bachelors degree in economics from The University of London. He has diverse research interests spanning areas such macroeconomics, monetary economics, institutional economics and political economy. He has worked with multiple think-tanks in the past. A regular columnist, he writes for major digital publishing platforms, leading Indian magazines and newspapers.

Rimp Dorjee

Engineer, Man of the Mountains
Rimp Dorjee Lepcha is a Senior Engineer with the Sikkim State Government and has served as the Project Director for the Asian Development Bank project for South Asia Tourism Infrastructure Development Project in the state. In addition to being the President of the Rotary Club, Gangtok South, he has also been nominated as India’s Goodwill Ambassador to Brazil. As a member of the Hazard Safety Cell, he has done a great deal of good work in post-earthquake rehabilitation with regard to raising funds and execution. Based on his valuable contribution, he was invited by the government of Taiwan as a ‘Future Leader of South Asia’. He has also been invited by the United States Government for an international Visitors Leadership Program on disaster management. He is passionate about the well being of the mountains that he calls home. Watch him speak about how plans for sustainability and averting disaster have been put to action and can be spread far and wide.

Shivraj Khaitan

Student, e-waste Activist
Rapid changes in technology have shortened the lifespan of electronics, with people replacing and disposing of electronic devices. This, compounded by improper disposal channels, and lack of awareness about how to dispose of e-waste, leads to an environmental nightmare. A grade XII student of business and economics, Shivraj believes that business and entrepreneurship can offer sustainable solutions to environmental and social issues. He has organized and led various e-waste awareness campaigns and collection drives in his community. To raise awareness about e-Waste management, he has launched a campaign called ErazeWaste. He has also developed a website (https://erazewaste.in) for users to schedule convenient e-waste pickups. Since launching the campaign, he has managed to collect over 2 tonnes of e-waste.

Yugm Band

Musicians for the Soul and Society
Since their inception, YUGM has been established as one of the most thrilling, innovative and original acts on the Indian music scene, with the unique reputation of enthralling audiences in any kind of setting — from corporate events and music festivals to pub gigs and college shows. YUGM is now a well-respected entity on the cultural map across India. The band predominantly blends folk, western music, Indian ancient music along with elements of Sufi. The band has performed more than 450 shows in over 100 cities and it beautifully incorporates classical Indian instruments to infuse the folk hue to their music. Their songs cover a wide range of topics, but they focus on prevailing social issues like water wastage or the taboo against menstruation.
