In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Elena Liu

2020 is an unusual year, with coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic wreaking havoc around the world and nearly freezing the global economy. We wonder, what is the specific impact of the epidemic on our economy in this extremely tense economic situation? Is it all bad?

Fred Ren

Mr. Fred Ren is Assistant Superintendent of Maple Leaf Educational Systems (MLES), Principal of MLES Research Institute and Vice Chairman of the Global Alumni Association of Maple Leaf International Schools. As an experienced applicant who went to Harvard, he will demonstrate the process of university application and debunk application myths for you.

Psychological issues tend to be one of the major problem for humans. However, they are part of normal life, and can also posse many challenges during the day. The presenter grappled with many adversities growing up and it was these experiences that shaped him.

William Ouyang

The one-child policy has a prominent impacts on the Chinese society, however, most people learn about this issue macroscopically, while only few have recognized its effects on Chinese families. The general belief is that the one-child policy indirectly resulted in a self-centered generation, and posed many underlying challenges. William aims to present the audience insights of a typical Chinese family that has two children under the one-child policy, and reveal the familial dilemmas imposed by it.

Yang Lu

Maple Leaf Zhenjiang is situated on the traditional territory of Dong Xiang (东乡), a birthplace of the Wu (吴) Culture, an important port and a site of meeting and exchange since 1918, and the largest farmers’ neighbourhood in the province of Jiangsu. The neighbourhood, named Pingchang New City (平昌新城), was master-planned and built by the local government in 2009. Why did farmers leave their farmland uncultivated and move to gated complexes in Pingchang? What role does the local government play in this migration process? The presentation will outline the Case Study of Pingchang New City and provide further insights on these questions.

Zhanao Sun

An Maple Leaf International High School student in Zhenjiang, Zhanao participated in a statistics research program at Harvard Medical School this summer and published an EI paper on financial time series forecasting. Introducing the practical applications of time series and previously undetected modern conveniences powered by it, he will illustrate the promising future possibilities of time series.
