Based on the success of Leadership Pittsburgh Inc.’s TEDWomen Pittsburgh in December 2010, Leadership Pittsburgh Inc. will host TEDxPittsburgh Women on December 1, 2011 with support from FISA Foundation, First Commonwealth, Women and Girls Foundation, PghTech Women Network, Bayer Center for Nonprofit Management at Robert Morris University and the Center for Women's Entrepreneurship at Chatham University. This gathering represents a collaborative effort for those who are investing in the future of women and girls in our region. TEDxPittsburgh Women will celebrate women as change agents, intellectual innovators and idea champions. The event will blend powerful segments of the live global TEDxWomen simulcast, performances by local women artists and focused roundtable discussions about women and girls in our region (led by event attendees who are passionate about women and their potential and are addressing issues and challenges that affect their lives here in Southwestern Pennsylvania). There will be no keynotes, framing of talks or long speaker introductions but there will be opportunity for conversation stimulated by TEDxWomen and the creative introduction of thought provoking ideas by TEDxPittsburgh Women organizers. TEDxPittsburgh Women will engage established and emerging leaders in Southwestern Pennsylvania working to improve the lives of women and girls. Participants will form their own perspectives, connections and ideally new collaborations for positive change with regard to women and girls in our region and beyond. This cross-section of attendees will be engaged in new ways to inspire fresh ideas that have the potential for fostering innovative approaches to tap more fully into the talent of women and girls in our region. TEDxPittsburgh Women embodies the spirit of TED itself: cross-disciplinary, focused on the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world.
