Theme: Creating Spaces

Space had three dimensions until we discovered the fourth, the fifth and now we have ten strung to the impeccable yarn of humankind's past. Unfortunately, every dimension that we discovered constricted the discernible space. By the time the temporal dimension was unearthed, we had begun scrambling for more, leaving us with lesser; lesser space. The walls of buildings drew closer and the roofs rocketed to the sky. We called them skyscrapers. The individuality of thoughts shrank to minuscule spheres and hoards of them meandered aimlessly in our minds. We called it anxiety and confusion.The harbingers of a nation, its pride and its land, we called them nationalists and the advocates of the proletariat, we called them socialists. They polarized the general public, kindled hatred amongst them and we called it a dual-party democracy.We burnt forests, broke mountains, created artificial islands in oceans and we called it development.Thus, every space shrank, and shrank, and shrank, while new dimensions were added to it. Spaces and voids are important so that we can empty the tangible and intangible toxicity that exists in this world. A shrinking space with no spaces is bound to burst due to flooding of substance in it. The grim question that needs to be asked in the present times is, "How do we CREATE SPACES?

After completing MBBS, Dr. Chavda pursued Diploma in Psychological Medicine at University of Mumbai.Dr. Chavda has 34 years of vast experience in the field of Psychiatry. He is the ex-president of the Bombay Psychiatrist Society. He was the Chairperson, Taskforce on School Psychiatry & Counselling, India Psychiatric Society. He is currently a member of the Indian Psychiatry Society dealing with ethical issues between doctor and patient, and is also on the taskforce of the Indian Paediatric Society dealing with developmental difficulties in children. Dr. Chavda is a fellow of the Indian Psychiatry Society, the Indian Association of Private Psychiatry, and a fellow of the American Psychiatry Association.

He was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia , a rare and potentially deadly form of blood cancer when he was in his early thirties and his little son barely a year old. He was put on a revolutionary treatment which does not cure but till keeps his Leukemic cells under control; which never lets him forget that he is still living with cancer . His whole life changed of course . Goals had to changed and goal posts relocated ; family and work priorities re worked out and thus began his search for a new normal . Throughout this period of reconciliation and readjustments he felt the need to find something to occupy him and fill those empty spaces within him and give him the strength to cope with the new turn his life had taken . This was when he resumed his childhood passion - Karate."
