In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Charlotte Fong

Student
A fresh highschool graduate with dreams of tackling injustice through journalism, Charlotte hopes that by sharing her experiences and the lessons she learnt, others can be motivated to embrace themselves as they are.

Clement Chan

Student
Not long ago, Clement was a delinquent for whom a perpetual state of messiness and lack of discipline was habitual. He found himself doomed; there seemed to be no way that could help him fix it. It reached a breaking point where his parents forced him to be “re-educated” at a military training camp with stringent orders. Despite his resistance to the camp, it ultimately ended up being a life-changing and inspiring experience. This encounter not only allowed Clement to discover his true talents outside of his locked-up room — it also transformed his habits, mindset, and personality. His story is relatable yet inspirational, with a lesson that each and every one of us can apply to our own lives.

Haley Lam

Musical artist
Haley can sing, play the guitar, the piano, and the euphonium. He and his best friend Anderson have been playing together for four years. They share a love for contemporary Christian music, R&B, soul, and funk music. They both are in their school's show choir and worship team.

Lindsay Varty

Author
Lindsay Varty is an award-winning Hong Kong-based writer, journalist and former professional rugby player. She is the author of Sunset Survivors, a book about the fading traditional trades of Hong Kong and the people that continue to run them. She spent three years interviewing traditional craftsmen and women to find out about their jobs, lives, and struggles in a rapidly modernising society. She now gives talks to present her findings, spreading the importance of recognising and respecting Hong Kong’s culture and identity before it slips away. Her work has been featured on CNN, The Guardian, CCTV, SCMP, the 2019 International Literature Festival, and more. As a child of British and Macanese parents, who also grew up in Hong Kong, Lindsay is a proud ‘third culture kid’ who is fascinated by the little things that make us feel at home.

Ruth Auty

Teacher
Ruth Auty has taught for 43 years in five different countries and school systems around the world. While teaching and travelling from New Zealand to the United Kingdom, to India, to Lebanon, back to NZ and now in Hong Kong, she has encountered over a thousand students in her care. She has particularly chosen to dedicate her teaching life to 11-12 year olds with their curiosity for life and the development stage of life they are entering into. Ruth retires at the end of this school year from International Christian School in Hong Kong and holds an amazing record of only taking half a day sick leave in her whole career. Maternity leave, apparently, does not count.
