In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Bin Mai

Assistant Professor, College of Education
Dr. Bin Mai is currently a faculty member in Department of Education Administration and Human Resource Development, College of Education and Human Development, Texas A&M University. He’s the Coordinator of the department’s Technology Management degree program. Dr. Mai’s main research interests focus primarily on the analytical, empirical and behavioral investigations of Information Technology Management (ITM) / Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) in general, and of information security (InfoSec) and data privacy in particular, and has published widely in these fields. Dr. Mai has recognized the emerging significant trends in IT industry of increasing emphasis on human elements in information security and privacy, and firmly believes, and whole-heartedly anticipates, the necessary shift to a more human-centric paradigm in studying information security and privacy, both in academic researches, as well as in education curriculum design.

Micah Green

Chemical Engineering Professor
Micah J. Green received his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at Texas Tech in 2002. He then entered the Chemical Engineering Ph.D. program at MIT. His Ph.D. focused on computational studies of phase behavior and rheology of rodlike liquid crystals; his studies also included a minor in early Christian history at Harvard. After finishing his Ph.D. in 2007, he developed nanotube-based liquid crystals and fibers as an Attwell-Welch Postdoctoral Fellow at Rice University. After several years on the faculty at Texas Tech, he joined Texas A&M as an Associate Professor in the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering in Summer 2014. He has received the NSF CAREER Award, the Young Investigator Award from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and the DuPont Young Faculty Award for his work in the area of nanomaterial dispersions and morphology dynamics, with applications to gels, composites, and additive manufacturing.

Rob Pennington

Psychologist and Motivational Speaker
As a professional speaker, Dr. Pennington received Mental Health America Outstanding Speaker Award four times; was one of Meeting Professionals International’s original Platinum Presenter; was recognized by the CPA Society with their “Salute to Excellence” award and received the National Speaker’s Association of Houston’s first Pennington Award for Excellence in Recognition of Extraordinary and Selfless Service. Since 2014, Dr. Pennington has been coaching and training with many components of Houston’s Texas Medical Center, helping physicians, associated medical professions and hospital administrators improve their leadership and team development. Begun in 2016 at the request of group of CEO’s participating in Vistage, a support and training group for C Suite executives, he and Stephen Haslam translated their 40+ years of content development and experience consulting and coaching leaders into the Professional Development Series.

Tiana Sanford

Chief Prosecutor
Tiana serves as a Chief Prosecutor in the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office where she has handled a variety of cases. She is currently assigned as the Chief of the Misdemeanor Division. In this role Tiana supervises the work of multiple court teams including attorneys, investigators and support staff and focuses on the education, training and development of newly appointed prosecutors.
