Theme: ReWire

ReWire is focusing on the power to shift lenses on our view of the world. Our theme is centered on each speaker’s talk that includes events, passions, data, or anything that “rewires” the audience. We want speakers to be confident in their own personal thoughts in order to impart change upon the local and global community.

Austin Wood

Student

Austin Wood is a full-time 11th grader and a part-timer at everything else. In addition to normal classes, he enjoys being on the Speech and Debate team, working towards his Eagle Scout award, and running for Mission Vista ́s Cross Country and Track teams. He also is active on campus, participating in CSF, NHS, and Interact clubs. When asked about his personal hobbies, Austin claimed that he loved piano, adding that he sits at the one in his home for hours on end and even occasionally plays notes that resemble music.

Bailey Ungaro

Student

Bailey Ungaro is a hard working senior at Mission Vista who has a passion for public speaking, film, and anything that involves Timothee Chalamet. Bailey is the current captain of the Speech and Debate team and has won various awards over the years for public speaking. She is devoted to various clubs around campus and has been recognized for the astonishing work that she has done to advocate for the LGBT community. Bailey is excited for the future and hopes to pursue a career in directing.

Cipriana Rodriguez

Student

Cipriana is a senior in the 2019-2020 school year at Mission Vista High School who holds a gusto for education and learning. She joined and later became the Vice President of her school's Speech and Debate team for these reasons. She believes public speaking platforms act as important opportunities to learn about new perspectives, subjects, and people, that one may not have otherwise considered. This passion took her to the State finals at the California State Speech and Debate Tournament, and has also brought her to TedX to continue to share that sentiment.

Jared Leeds

Student

Jared Leeds is in his senior year at Mission Vista. His interests include creative writing, politics, learning, and reading (and rereading) Harry Potter in his spare time. As the president of MVHS’ Young Democrats Club, Jared devotes time to joining activist efforts, protests, and holding voter registration drives on school campuses to get the youth involved. When he’s not out in the streets of the March for our Lives, you can find him writing his novel, serving frozen yogurt at his job, or crumbling under immense amounts of homework. Jared is thrilled to be apart of TEDx and has cherished the insight he’s learned from the program and every one of tonight’s presenters.

Kaili Osselaer

Student

Kaili Osselaer, a senior at Mission Vista, enjoys the subjects Electrical Engineering and Physics. She is an active promoter for Women in STEM, and is the president of the Women in STEM Careers club and Vice President of the AP Physics C club. Her dream job is to create/own a company that designs technology for people with special needs. Kaili’s hobbies include riding motorcycles, competitive soccer, and creative writing. She is passionate about helping others and hopes her Tedx Talk makes an impact on you and the community.

Kainath Kamil

Student

Kainath Kamil is a drained junior at Mission Vista. Publishing three biology papers in academic journals, placing 1st in the National ExploraVision Competition for her innovative climate change solution, and receiving the Emperor Science Award for her cancer research, Kainath is somewhat of a science gal. On the side, Kainath runs a nonprofit (San Diego Youth Environmental Association), and is VP of her school’s STEM Club and Health Occupation Student Association. Kainath lives to eat and loves to talk, although people say she complains too much. She is very appreciative of her Indian heritage and her even-more-Indian parents.

Khalif Kamil

Student

Khalif Kamil is a freshman at Mission Vista who expresses a love for learning. He is very curious in STEM fields and took part in Hippocrates Circle, a mentoring program for those aspiring to be in the medical field. In Middle School, he had roles in ASB, National Junior Honor Society, and Conservation Club, and also placed 1st overall in the Oceanside Chess Tournament. In addition, Khalif was awarded Student of the Year out of his Middle School Class of 400. His hobbies include eating, sleeping, and basketball. Khalif also learns life lessons and Indian culture from his parents, who have worked hard to make him successful ㅡ and bilingual. Most importantly, he has a passion for helping and teaching others, volunteering at hospitals and homeless shelters.

Okalani Dawkins

Student

Okalani Dawkins is an ambitious sophomore who is on the path to dedicating her life to human rights advocacy. As the vice president of Amnesty International, she strives to convey a message of tolerance and solidarity among students, as well as to eradicate indifference toward recent social issues. Along with being a member of the California Scholarship Federation Club, a long-time volunteer at the Vista Library, and an avid speaker within her community, she hopes to use her passion for activism as a human rights lawyer.

Omid Tahamtani

Student

Omid Tahamtani is a junior at Mission Vista who has been contemplating the very existence of the universe for as long as he can remember. Omid is very fascinated about the intricacies and complex structure of the universe, and hopes to one day become a renowned theoretical physicist. Currently Omid uses his free time to be with friends, and to further educate himself in order to improve his world view, he believes that education, and the ability to see all points of view are key in order to take an imprortant, and valid stance on any subject. Omid also loves to play, and watch basketball, as well as to involve himself in anything STEM related, and he can also speak a second language.

Renat Reyhan

Student

Renat Rayhan is a senior who questions everything around him. He walks and takes a look at the finest details, and he never misses the opportunity to learn and grow even from what seems to be the worst of situations. Renat is currently enrolled in the Panel Piano program of California for outstanding piano performers, where multiple piano pieces ranging from the Baroque to Modern Latin Music are exhibited to a series of judges. He aspires to major in Cellular and Molecular Biology with an exploratory interest in genetics. Renat also simply loves to volunteer at the Operation Hope facility at the youth center to teach, care for, and draw with all of the kids. Renat also enjoys reading in any subject, foreign languages (currently learning French and German outside the curriculum). Identifying and researching about the local species in Fallbrook is also a lovable passion.
