Theme: Redefining Reality

This event occurred on
April 12, 2019
Cupertino, California

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Caitlin Stanton

Advocate for Women in Tech
Caitlin Stanton is a current junior at Cornell University pursuing a degree in electrical and computer engineering, with minors in computer science and business. On campus, she's the founding president of the Beta Chi chapter of Alpha Omega Epsilon engineering sorority and a vice president for Women in Computing at Cornell. Outside of Cornell, Caitlin is an ambassador for #BUILTBYGIRLS, a mentor for ProjectCSGirls and She++ #include, and the co-founder for several hackathons. When she isn't studying, she can be found blogging, fiddling with Arduinos and Raspberry Pis, and watching Vine compilations while drinking boba. For the past five years, Caitlin has been immersing herself in the world of technology. However, her journey into a world of hardware and software has been anything but linear. Her talk, Everyone Deserves a Seat at the Table: Opinions from a #WomanInTech, will center on her experiences as a woman in tech and life lessons she's learned along the way.

Sylvie Rokab

Film Director, Visionary Speaker, and Nature Therapy Guide
With the Atlantic Forest and rocky beaches as her backyard, Sylvie was born in Rio de Janeiro and raised by French and Italian—Egypt-born—parents who encouraged her fascination with nature. Heartbroken by its rapid destruction, as a young adult she made it her mission to inspire a deeper connection with the natural world. Today, Sylvie is an Emmy nominated, award-winning filmmaker with 20+ years experience as a director, cinematographer, and writer–working on films for the silver screen as well as TV networks such as HBO, PBS, Travel Channel, and Discovery. Narrated by Liam Neeson, her latest film LOVE THY NATURE received critical acclaim including 27 awards, and had nearly 300 screenings in 140 cities in 16 countries. An engaging speaker and teacher, she has lectured at over 60 venues, from film festivals, to universities and conferences. Sylvie seeks to inspire others to transform their relationship with nature and ignite a desire to protect our spellbinding natural world.
