At a time when the societal stakes are high, many questions come to mind: are we up to the task? Where to start? What are the issues at stake? There are many obstacles and it is not easy to change the world, to reshape it, to rethink it!

However, this is what TEDxUCLouvain is offering you this year through 9 talks by talented speakers who will focus their topics on a strong and engaging theme: Reshaping the Globe.

After the great discoveries, the passage of great explorers through unknown lands, space travel, are we (aren't we) on the threshold of a new disruption? Will you be a part of this change?

David Pitt-Watson

Social entrepreneur

David Pitt-Watson is a leading voice in the field of responsible investment. At Hermes Investment Management, he co-founded and led the largest shareholder stewardship activity of any fund manager in the world. Over many years he has been involved in issues of financial reform and governance; for example he chaired the UN Environment Programme’s Finance Initiative in the run up to the Paris Climate accord. He has written extensively of topics of responsible investment and corporate governance, and is currently a visiting fellow at Cambridge University.

Fanny Everard

Social entrepreneur

Fanny Everard is a business administration student at KULeuven. At the age of 19, Fanny began to take a close interest in her daily use of plastic and how unreasonable it is. She took part in the recent creation of the WhatAboutWaste movement with Manuela and Betty last October, whose ambition is to ensure awareness of the use of plastic in our societies, with their emblematic Strawaws reusable straw.

Félicien Bogaerts

Radio host

Author, producer, radio and television host, Félicien Bogaerts began his career at the age of 16 on RTBF. He hosts the television programs Plan Cult, Tam-Tam and Agenda Ciné, as well as several radio segments and the musical program "Le Live du Belvédère" with Pierre Paulus. In May 2017, he founded "Le Biais Vert" with his friends Elias Sanhaji and Yoal Desurmont, an independent media that raises awareness of the environmental, climate and social issues of our time. In September 2018, with François Legrand, he founded Le JTerre, a monthly news and debate show broadcast live on several online platforms, bringing together many independent French-speaking media and videographers around "L'info des Vivants qui veulent le rester".

Fiona Nziza

Global Citizen educator

Of Burundian origin, Fiona Nziza completed her university studies in France. After five years of studying International Economics and Management, she came to Belgium to work. Fiona has been working for five years in the NGO attached to UCLouvain, Louvain Coopération, as an Education Officer for World Citizenship and Solidarity. Three years ago, she co-founded an association of young Burundians from the diaspora in Belgium. In my daily life, it oscillates between the design and implementation of engagement actions and theoretical reflection on them.

Jean-Pierre Raskin

PhD

Jean-Pierre Raskin holds an M.S. and a doctorate in applied sciences from the Catholic University of Louvain, respectively in 1994 and 1997. He has been a Professor at UCLouvain since 2000. Jean-Pierre Raskin works on advanced transistors as well as on the manufacture of micro and nano sensors and integrated actuators. He has received the IEEE Fellow distinction and has also been awarded BLONDEL Medals 2015, SOI Consortium Award 2016, and the European SEMI Award 2017.

Joëlle Huaux

Business Coach

Joëlle Huaux has a degree in communication and psychology from UCLouvain. She worked for 17 years in advertising and also as a business coach (with a focus on relational issues, talent mapping, etc.) as well as a life coach. Currently, she is a professor at IAD and UCM. Recently, Joëlle published as an author "Generation Burn-out: A World in Metamorphosis", April 2019, on the global burn-out ("Our world is in crisis and it's good news").

Julie Willem

Architect

Julie Willem has been working at the Brussels based architecture firm A2M since 2004 where she is now partner. In addition to her profession, Julie is the author of several books, publications and articles. In 2009, she became co-founder of the journal be.passive. Julie regularly provides trainings in the professional environment, and shares her time between presentations, conferences and training programs. Developing her own vision, she heads A2M's international department. Also present on the international scene, Julie Willem leads projects in the United States, Canada and China. She now lives in New York.

Philippe Gérard

Conductor

Philippe Gérard completed his musical studies at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where he won the 1st Prize and higher diplomas in piano and chamber music, as well as a first prize in orchestral conducting. Pianist active both in Belgium and abroad, he has turned towards chamber music while developing a career as a conductor. As permanent conductor of la Chapelle Musicale de Tournai a chamber orchestra, he has conducted many other Belgian and foreign orchestras. He also collaborates regularly with young musicians' ensembles (Orchestras of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, UCL-l'OSEL...). He is a professor of conducting and accompanist in the singing and opera classes at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.

Sylvie Sarolea

Lawyer, PhD

Sylvie Sarolea is a professor of law at UCLouvain (Belgium) and a lawyer. She specializes in immigration law and also teaches human rights and private international law. Since 2011, she has been coordinating EDEM, the European Rights and Migration Team. EDEM has developed legal expertise on the transposition of European immigration law into national law and into human rights and migration. The team is also involved in interdisciplinary projects studying migration trajectories and developing stronger conceptual tools to better understand and model global migration patterns. EDEM is a member of the consortium Louvain4Migration.
