In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Dr. Daniel C. Allison

Dr. Daniel C. Allison is an orthopedic oncology surgeon, specializing in the surgical treatment of tumors of the pelvis and musculoskeletal system as well as reconstruction of bones and joints after trauma or degenerative disease. He is currently an assistant professor of surgery and assistant director of orthopedic oncology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Associate Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at University of Southern California, and Co-Director of Pediatric Orthopedic Oncology at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA). He is also a Commander in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Navy Reserves. He has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and has lectured internationally on the topic of surgical reconstruction. He is also a surgeon designer and has designed five different orthopedic implants for widespread surgical use. Dr. Allison attended St. John’s High School in Houston, Texas, Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he graduated with honors. While in medical school, he obtained a Masters in Business Administration from the Rice University Jones School of Business. He then went on to complete Orthopedic Surgery residency and Orthopedic Oncology fellowship at Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center.

John Mullen

John Mullen is a social entrepreneur and CEO of HOW (Help One Walk) International. HOW is primarily involved in the country of Mozambique in assisting landmine victims to be fitted with prosthetic legs. HOW is also working with former President Chissano of Mozambique to bring medical and humanitarian assistance to those in rural villages. Mullen is co-author, with Douglas Bowman of a recently published Amazon bestseller, ‘Florencia, An Accidental Story,’ which chronicles a captivating story of finding a 17-year old woman in the Bush of Mozambique and traveling three continents and 25,000 miles to get her a prosthetic leg. In May of 2018, John appeared before the United Nations to highlight the plight of landmine victims and the need for low-cost prosthetic legs. He has devoted his life to ensuring that landmine victims are given the opportunity to walk again and integrate fully back into society. He lives in Santa Barbara, California with his wife, Kim and their four children.

Terri Murphy

Terri Murphy learned early in her career, how to build a strong customer network, propelling her into the top 10 percent of a national sales organization. Terri took what she learned and began her own sales consulting company. Her expertise is in consulting, and developing sales and marketing initiatives for companies, executives and associations on ways to fill their sales pipeline by building strong relationships using cutting edge technology tools and engagement strategies that combine online and traditional communication techniques. Terri is a best-selling author for Dearborn Financial Publishing and is the published author of five books focused on sales and leadership. She is also a nationally syndicated columnist on sales, marketing and communication strategies and is a business e-communication consultant and certified DISC specialist. She is a producer and host for television, podcasts, virtual training networks and radio programs. Terri has been featured on ABC, NBC and CNBC News as a sales expert. She is a regularly scheduled guest on WREGTV’s Live@9 for Women in Business and KWAM990 A.M. Women’s Wisdom Wednesdays. She is president of her own company Terri Murphy Communications, Inc. and CIO of U.S. Learning; a global interactive on-demand learning and training company based in Memphis, TN.

Terry Paulson

Dr. Paulson has a PhD in clinical psychology and a MA in lay theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. He’s author of The Optimism Advantage, They Shoot Managers Don’t They, and Speak Like a Pro. As a professional speaker, he helps leaders and teams leverage optimism to make change work. He’s past president of both the National Speakers Association and the Global Speakers Federation and is a member of NSA's Speaker Hall of Fame. Dr. Paulson continues to conduct practical and engaging programs for organizations such as IBM, 3M, HBO, KPMG, Merck, SONY, and Starbucks.
