In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Calvin Wayman

Economist
Calvin Wayman explores how people can create more freedom in their lives through simple changes in their behavior around money. He’s the host of the podcast “Curious With Calvin Wayman,” creator of the YouTube show “Making The Millionaire,” and the author of “Fish Out of Water.”

Charles Matheus

Educator
Charles Matheus is an Arizona native with thirty years’ experience as an educator, program manager, and team leader. He earned a B.S. in Education from Cornell University and is a graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School’s Instructor’s Course. Charles has been a classroom teacher, a nonprofit manager, a backpacking guide and a professional organic gardener. For the last few years, Charles has been volunteering with young men in his community as a mentor figure, and has come to TEDx to promote validating in place.

David Eagle

Physicist
David Eagle grew up at the dawn of the Space Age. All the kids his age wanted to be astronauts when they grew up. When his first-grade teacher advised his parents that David needed glasses, it broke his heart because he was sure that they would never allow a boy wearing glasses to be an astronaut. Still, he read science fiction and dreamed of our future in space. Mr. Eagle holds a BS in Physics, an MS in Mathematics and was granted the very first degree ever awarded in Nanotechnology.

Jeffery Kirkendall

Trauma Counselor
Jeffery Kirkendall is a thirty-seven-year veteran trauma counselor, caregiver, author, educator, husband, and father in the field d childhood sexual abuse. His focus is Child Rights Advocacy. Jeffery uses storytelling as a voice for sexually abused children at the intersections of age, race, religion, law, and socio-economics. He is currently working on his Ph.D. in Sustainability Education at Prescott College.

Joey Powell

Joey Powell is a former army infantry and armor officer and former Air Force Special Operations, Combat Controller (CCT). He is the owner of Praxis Athletics / CrossFit Prescott / Chaos Conditioning and Training LLC and is National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) certified as Strength And Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Joey came to TEDx to share his experiences working with injured veterans.

Kathy Aalto

Kathy Aalto, originally from Oregon, was a stay at-home mom who raised a blended family of six children including her youngest son Andy who has Downs Syndrome. In the late 80s her entrepreneurial spirit kicked in and she became the founder and publisher of two successful magazines. At 69 she is now retired and a new Arizona resident. In addition to retirement fun she also spends her time mentoring and sharing the inspirational story of Andy who is now 41 years old, has lived on his own for the past 20 years and has worked at Safeway as a courtesy clerk for the past 22 years.

Kelli Bradstreet

Educator
Kelli Bradstreet is the Director of Instructional Support for Prescott Unified School District. Prior to her position in Administration, she taught high school English for 29 years as well as mentored other teachers as an Instructional Coach for 8 of those years. As a result of being in the field of education for so long, Kelli has become passionate about what is not being taught in schools: balance, self care, making meaningful connections with others, and discovering one’s passion.

Robert Shegog

Educator
Robert is a guest teacher in Yavapai County and a volunteer wrestling coach in the Humboldt district. Robert has a BA degree from Olivet College and a MA from Northern Arizona University. He retired in 2006 after 32 years of teaching and coaching at the secondary level. His past awards includes Martin L. King, Michigan Speak Up State Champion, teacher of the year at North High, volunteer of the year at Bradshaw Mt. High School and three times selected to Who's Who Among America's Teachers. His motto is "service to humanity is the greatest work in life".
