In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Ali Fahim

Student
Ali Fahim is currently a student at Charles P. Allen High School. He is and has always been extremely passionate about bringing positive change to the world. In 2013, he experienced his first major depressive episode without particular cause. In his free time, he enjoys making music and learning new things. He is also an avid fan of all things relating to science.

Amanda Isenor

Student
Amanda is a grade 12 student currently enrolled in the IB program at Charles P Allen High School. She is continuing her education next year at University of PEI in hopes of one day becoming a vet. Amanda is passionate about soccer and plays competitively in the province and is continuing to play at the university level. She is an independent thinker who embraces a good challenge.

Christopher Penney

English Teacher
Christopher Penney is an English teacher at Charles P. Allen High School in Bedford, Nova Scotia. In former lives he was a commercial insurance underwriter, a mascot for a major petro-chemical corporation, and once ran away to join the circus.

Francisca Annan

Student
Francisca Annan is a grade 11 IB student at CPA. She is involved with variety of clubs and committees including the robotics team, the newspaper club and student council. Francisca cannot ride a bike and has never climbed a tree, but vows to do both of these things before graduation.

Mara So

Student
Mara is a driven and passionate Grade 12 IB student at Charles P. Allen High School who loves biology and wants to dedicate her life to research. Her other interests include drawing, karate, and training to become the world's greatest Pokémon Master.

Nathan Beeler

Head of Halifax All City Music and former band teacher
Nathan Beeler is a music educator, conductor, performer and speaker from Halifax, Nova Scotia. He is currently the department head of the Halifax All City Music Program and conducts the Halifax Schools Symphony Orchestra. In 2010, Nathan was a recipient of the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence, one of Canada’s highest awards for educators.
