In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Charles Modlin

Kidney transplant surgeon
Charles Modlin, a urology kidney transplant surgeon, is a graduate of Northwestern University. Being the sole African American transplant surgeon in Northeast Ohio, he founded the Minority Men’s Health Center of Cleveland Clinic and won the Minority Health Leadership Award. Dr. Modlin, named both Man of the Year (2000) and one of America’s Top 21 Outstanding Black Doctors (2011), personifies a phenomenal doctor.

Kerry Tobin

Assistant professor in philosophy
Kerry Tobin is an assistant professor of philosophy at Cuyahoga Community College. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Adelphi University and a Master’s in Philosophy from Cleveland State University. Ms. Tobin has published articles in The Plain Dealer, The Lakewood Observer, and the Ladies Home Journal. She is also an active volunteer for the Cleveland Council on World Affairs and is a certified associate of The American Philosophical Practitioners Association. Tobin is a well-travelled individual having visited England, Ireland, Austria, and Italy and has been commended on her insightful speaking instruction as a contract speaker for various institutions.

Tom Johnston

Executive Search Consultant
Tom Johnston is committed to helping companies identify and recruit top talent as an executive search consultant. Mr. Johnston founded Searchpath International, Inc. and has been its President and CEO since 2005. Prior to launching SearchPath International he held leadership positions with Management Recruiters International, Reliance Consulting Group and United Parcel Service. In 2009 he launched MyHuntPath that focuses on coaching and mentoring a wide range of people, from high school students to CEOs, on how to better manage their careers.
