TEDxYaliHighSchool is the first student-run TEDx event in Changsha that has both student and adult speakers involved. The theme of TEDxYaliHighSchool event is Dreamception,and it is aimed to inspire students to follow their dreams, pay attention to the details in life(perception), have a unique idea or thought(conception) and make the first step to try to turn the idea into reality(inception). We will invite former alumni of Yali and Changjun High School, current students in Yali and Mingde High School, young entrepreneurs from Changsha and foreign teachers at Yali to share their experience and stories of pursuing their own dreams!

Claire Du

Founding Partner and CEO of TechRock in Beijing, Founder of China LAC Tour
Yanjing(Claire) Du graduated from Yali High School in 2004 and is a member of the class of 2008 from Carleton College, with a double major in History and International Relations/Political Science. Claire works as the Founding Partner and CEO of TechRock in Beijing, helping to build a communication platform between China and the United States. Her work has focused specifically on expanding communication channels between Chinese business and political leaders and other prominent global leaders.The most influential conferences she manages include Boao Forum for Asia, Caijing Annual Conference, China Philanthropy Forum and Sanya Forum, where she serves as the liaison between Chinese national leaders and other world leaders such as Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton,Tony Blair, and Peggy Rockefeller. In 2009 Claire founded her non-profit organization China Liberal Arts College Tour, which brings admissions officers from prestigious beral arts colleges in the US to visit high schools in China

Daniel Zhang

Architect, co-founder of Yuanda P8 Innovative community
Daniel Zhang, a trained architect from Carnegie Mellon University. Previous works include the Broad Corporate Pavilion during 2010 Shanghai World Expo, which is an environmentally sustainable modular 6 floor building + convention hall that is assembled in one day. Since then, have created the online campaign for Modular highrise buildings of 15, 30 and 57 floors. Currently a Phd candidate of TERI University in India researching urban policies regarding Urbanisation and Education, while curating for a sustainability tech-incubator network in Southern China named the PlanetHub.

Diego Salva

Oral English Teacher, Yali High School, Yale-China Association
Mr. Salva is originally from Santiago, Chile. He lived for a few years in Washington, DC, and graduated from Yale University, where he studied Ethics, Politics, and Economics. After graduation, he worked at McKinsey & Company, a business consulting company. After a year at McKinsey, he left to do research on soft skills and start an academy to teach these to high school students in Santiago. The research was the first of its kind in Chile. Mr Salva's growing interest in education and passion for new languages then led him to join the Yale-China Association as a Teaching Fellow at Yali. Besides his work, Mr. Salva loves traveling, playing piano, guitar, reading, and Italian culture.

Junyuan Jin

Senior, Minde High School.
Born in Wuhan and raised in the United States, Junyuan what you would consider the poster child of a postmodernist world. Having moved on multiple occasions throughout his lifetime, He have temporarily settled in Changsha, purgatory to his next step in life. His iterant lifestyle has given many opportunities to reflect upon cultural diversity, cultural shock and other cultural studies, which is a part of what he will be talking about at TEDxYaliHighSchool. Currently, he is applying for undergraduate studies in the United States, with only a few months lingering in the application process.He looks forward to presenting his life story and his speech to all participates. (Especially to Model United Nations delegates!)

Mengchao Feng

founder and CEO, Yilian Education
Graduated from Yali in 2010, I have flown through the most exciting years of my life, a. k. a. college, and landed on a path of endless grind that we call real life. I started my own business with a team of aspiring young men, only to have my partners yanked away one after another by their parents. As the only person who has full control over his life among all my peers, I think I’m qualified to talk about the vulnerability of dreams and why our biggest obstacles to achieve our dreams are in fact our parents and our education.

Ruoyu Chen

Senior, Yali High School
Ruoyu is a senior student at Yali High School. She started studying basic microeconomics and macroeconomics inher freshmen year, and taught a elective basic microeconomics course at a local high school. Shortly after she shifted her focus to learning about banking crises and the financial market as a whole. In this summer, She had the chance to study systematically about financial theories in the Yale summer session, including portfolio theories and security pricings.

Wei Wang

CEO Hi-Move Bus; Entrepreneur
Wei (Harry) Wang is the CEO of Hi-Move Bus, a mobile app that improves passenger experience. Harry has been a serial entrepreneur since college. He was the founder of iBookunionubc.com (an O2O consignment bookstore), co-founder of Boldcloset (an online tailoring service provider), and Loji (a logistics information exchange app invested by Zhen Fund, IDG Capital, Baidu and Renren). Harry is also a Charted Financial Analyst (CFA) who started his early career in Pacific Mergers & Acquisitions in Vancouver, Deloitte Corporate Finance Advisory Group and Loncin Holding Group in Beijing. He graduated from Changjun High School and finished his undergraduate study in University of British Columbia.
