In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Annie Chen

Annie is a senior at Taipei American School. She is part of the Model UN team, debate team, badminton team, and is president of Cancer Society and Roots & Shoots club. In her free time, she loves to travel, paint, dance, and read. One of her favorite classes is philosophy, as that was where she started to question our society, norms, and thinking, and she would like for you to do the same

Chung Joey

Joey Chung was born in Taiwan and raised in America. When Mr. Chung was 24, he was accepted to Harvard Business School, becoming the youngest Taiwanese student in the Harvard MBA record. He then became the general manager of Sanrio in China, but decided to come back to Taiwan and invest himself in the field of media and communications. Now, Mr. Chung is the founder and CEO of The News Lens and a renowned columnist.

Haley Rowlands

Haley is a sophomore at TAS. She's a bookworm and a treehugger and she's proud of it. She feels more at home with a quill than a keyboard and doesn't know how she found her way into an age of digitalization and social media. Haley's life is mainly MUN, cooking, photography and running. She aspires to be a professional librocubicularist and is currently working hard to get in all the necessary practice. She thinks that above all else, humanity needs to stop asking questions. Haley is excited to be speaking at the first TEDx event at TAS and can't wait to see what it has in store for us!

Jake Hemingway

Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Jake has lived in Taiwan for eight years. He is fluent in Mandarin and fully immersed in local culture.

Joey Chung

Joey Chung was born in Taiwan and raised in America. He returned to Taiwan when he was twelve and attended National Taiwan University. He is also the founder of Taiwan’s first Model United Nations conference and wrote his first book when he was 20. When Mr. Chung was 24, he was accepted to Harvard Business School, becoming the youngest Taiwanese student in the Harvard MBA record. He then became the general manager of Sanrio in China, but decided to come back to Taiwan and invest himself in the field of media and communications. Now, Mr. Chung is the founder and CEO of The News Lens and a renowned columnist. He will be sharing how he had strategically planned his life and prompts everyone else to do the same.

Kelly Hsu

Kelly Hsu Kelly is a senior at Taipei American School who enjoys writing, playing softball, creating art, and listening to One Direction. Her favorite pastime is to explore Taipei strictly by the means of YouBiking and taking the MRT/public buses. She finds that being in crowds makes her feel insignificant and significant at the same time. She hopes to be able to change the traditional mindsets of the crowds she has walked through one day.

Kevin Chen

Kevin Chen is the founder and executive director at ELIV, the first social enterprise involved in international service. His team leads volunteers to directly help and impact locals in other countries with methods such as building houses and establishing public health constructions. He believes that as an international volunteer, one can be truly connected to others and seek for identities previously unrecognized before.

Nancy Zuniga

Nancy is a sophomore at Taipei American School. She was born and raised in Mexico, but has been living in Taipei for 4 years already. She enjoys doing outdoor sports such as running, soccer, biking and touch, as well as learning new languages and cultures. In school, she is involved in Third World Investment, Cancer Society, SHS, Reach out, Big Buddy, World Vision and Dignifight. She recently just turned vegan, and will be talking about the important relationship between the food we consume and our environment.

Nick Coburn-Palo

Dr. Nick Coburn-Palo is a Teacher and Coach of the Debate Team at the Taipai American School. In addition to his over twenty years of classroom teaching experience at both the high school and university level, he has previously served as a Program Dean for International Security Studies at Yale University and earned his Ph.D in Political Science from Brown University. For the past five years he has worked as a consulting negotiation trainer for diplomats on behalf of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). During this time, Dr. Coburn-Palo has worked with hundreds of diplomats on projects including the following: Featured Lecturer at the African Union Ambassador-level summit to prepare for the Rio+20 Global Conference on Sustainable Development, Trainer for the incoming South African Security Council delegation's speech writing staff, and Instructor for the cutting edge UNITAR on-line course for diplomats

Peter Su

Peter Su is an inspirational author of the new generation. Previously a backpacker, Peter has traveled the world and would like to tell us about how there are two sides to everything. Wherever there is sadness, there will also be happiness. To him, it is essential that everyone learn how to find the perfection in the imperfections and accept flaws.

Tzu-Wei Yang

Tzu-Wei, founder of the Clown Hearts Studio in Taiwan, is a professional clown. Tzu-Wei adamantly believes in the existence of the clown spirit in everyone she meets. She is passionate about spreading happiness through this unique form of performance art.
