About this event
The venue for our salon was set in a re-purposed industrial warehouse, now a film production studio which went far to inspire our theme: Shifting Perspectives.
After screening two TED Talks around an open floor discussion that invited people to share experiences from their own perspectives and challenged them to reflect on those, we were joined by Team Lebanon and TEDxBeirut Speaker Peter Mouracade for a sincere and thrilling conversation about the team's latest mountaineering expedition to Oceania, the most recent in a series of ever more challenging treks on their quest to climb the world's 7 Summits.
And what better way is there to end a salon than on a musical note? Thanks to Segundo Bloco, our stage burst with life to the sound of their earth-shaking Brazilian beats.
The salon was followed by a generous reception for our audience to mingle and network around drinks & snacks in the modern industrial space to the tunes of music served on a retro jukebox.
Q&A with Team Lebanon
A team of 7 Lebanese mountaineers, with diverse professional backgrounds and a common goal: "To be the first all-Lebanese team to climb the 7 summits and raise the Lebanese flag on top of the world." While achieving this goal, 1 summit at a time, they want to raise awareness around locally relevant charitable causes and help rally hearts & minds and fundraise to support theirsociety. Last, they wish to inspire the youth of their country to follow their own dreams and live their passions, to push themselves beyond their comfort zones, overcome adversity and achieve great challenges in their lives.
Performance by Segundo Bloco
A percussion group that plays Afro-Brazilian rhythms. Born in Beirut, and unique in the Arab world, their vision is to create the essence of Carnival in Lebanon and the region. Segundo Bloco is a community band, providing an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to join.
