加里•斯拉金医生用了十年多的时间在非洲防治结核病、霍乱和艾滋病等传染病。回到美国后, 他以为自己已经从残酷的传染病死亡中脱身。当他开始认真研究枪支犯罪时,他发现暴力的蔓延模式和感染性疾病的扩散模式相似。这是一个对很多社区所无奈接受的暴力问题的全新视角。斯拉金医生说,我们已经成功地防止了很多疾病,我们对暴力事件也可以这样做。
