Before you start

So you want to organize a TEDx event?

We’re thrilled to have you. TEDx is a community of thousands of organizers across the world and we welcome anyone, from anywhere, to create their own TEDx experience.

But take note: Being a TEDx organizer is an incredible experience, but it will take work, dedication, and a lot of your time. So if you’re thinking about organizing a TEDx event, it’s important to make sure you’re ready to dive in, and make the commitment.

Eligibility

If you want to organize a TEDx event, you’ll need to apply for a TEDx license. No one is eligible to organize an event without being granted a license by TED.

There are also exceptions when it comes to individuals interested in applying:

  • We value and welcome young organizers, but if you’re under 18 years old, you must be supervised by an adult.
  • TEDx events may not be used to promote spiritual or religious beliefs, commercial products or any kind of political agenda.
  • TED doesn’t grant licenses to individuals associated with controversial or extremist organizations.
  • Organizers may not affiliate the TEDx or TED brand with other conferences, non-profits, NGOs, corporations or with commercial endeavors.

Also keep in mind that TED reserves the right to revoke any TEDx license at any time. Renewal to organize a second TEDx event is not guaranteed.

Before you apply

Here are the three things you’ll need to review before you apply for a TEDx license:

Learn more about the TEDx experience

An essential first step is knowing more about what exactly a TEDx event is, so you’ll understand what your responsibilities are.

Review and accept the rules

You’ll be referring to the TEDx rules often while you’re organizing your event, so it’s important to us that you get a head start. In fact, you’re required to read them before you apply.

Learn the basics

You’ll want to decide on your event’s name, the date, a few potential speakers to invite, and topics you might want your event to include.

Read through the different event types
