This year, WWF, in association with Emirates Wildlife Society, hosted the prestigious TEDxWWF conference in Abu Dhabi. Previously held in Geneva and Singapore, Abu Dhabi was the third city to host TEDxWWF, and this year was the first time the conference visited the Middle East.

At TEDxWWF, forward-thinking speakers from around the world share fresh ideas on how to create a sustainable future for our planet.

Theme: One Planet Living
The theme stems from WWF’s overall vision to create a world where we can all live in harmony with nature within the limits of our one planet.

Humans, like every other species on the planet, depend on healthy ecosystems for survival. Nature provides essentials like clean water, food and medicines, while intact ecosystems also help regulate our weather and climate. However, our demand on natural resources means we are using 50 per cent more resources than the Earth can provide. By 2030, even two planets will not be enough.

This decade presents many challenges to humanity. Not the least of which is how the Earth will sustain a human population of nine billion people or more in 2050, and at the same time support millions of other species with which we share the planet.

As humans, we have no choice but to make changes to the way we live in order to keep our planet healthy. TEDxWWF provides an engaging platform for inspiring speakers to share their innovative ideas on how we can do just that, touching on topics such as sustainable energy, climate change and reconnecting with nature.
