What is admirable about him is his spirit of innovation, his ability to realise the implications of a development in basic biology, and willingness to adapt and apply it to the clinical situation and obtain results. He has made innovative contributions in ophthalmic research. His work represents the largest successful human trial of stem cell technology anywhere in the world.
Krispian Lawrence is a tinkerer and design geek. A post-graduate in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Krispian moved back to Hyderabad after almost 12 years of being in the US. He and his partner Anirudh Sharma founded Ducere Technologies Pvt Ltd in Hyderabad, to design, develop, and market their innovation Le Chal - the Haptic shoe for the Visually Impaired
Shekhinah Shawn is a professional opera singer and founder of Shekhinah Shawn Ministries. She has completed her grade 8 vocal theory from Trinity College, London, and has also procured an FTCL (Fellow Trinity College London) in vocal music from there, the FIRST EVER INDIAN to have done so. She is trained in blues, pop and R&D under world’s renowned music teachers. Shekhinah’s versatility is expressed in the fact that she can sing impeccably in many languages including German, French and Italian and has performed in more than 500 concerts.
Orlando Bernett is an amazing cube speed solver. He is the youngest to have solved a 333 Rubik’s cube blindfolded at the age of 8 years and is currently India’s reigning champion. At the age of 11 he became the world’s youngest Rubik’s cube speed solving champion, by solving a 555 Professor Cube blindfolded in 55 minutes. Bernett can also solve a 3X3 cube with his feet!
John Louis is a mathemagician and an international memory trainer. He has won myriad memory championships and Rubik’s cube competitions and is the first Indian ever to have bagged the coveted title of Grandmaster of Memory. He is also the proud father of Orlando Bernett, the youngest Rubik’s cube world champion.
Satya is a globetrotting thrill seeker and a die-hard adrenalin junkie. For him, life must be lived on and off the edge. He has been climbing and exploring all the mountain ranges across the globe for over 35 years. He has climbed the highest peaks of all the 7 continents, including Mt Everest (seven summits) and Skied to the North and South Poles just to name a few. He has conquered more than 350 peaks worldwide. He became the only person in the world to have successfully led expeditions to the three poles (Mt Everest, North and South Poles) and the first submariner in the world to do so as well. Dr. Suman Kapur is a popular teacher at BITS-Pilani. A post-graduate and Doctor in Medical Biochemistry from AIIMS, New Delhi, she has been primarily instrumental in the development of a path-breaking test for diabetes which is significantly cheaper and requires thousand times less blood than traditional glucose meters.
In his own words, Gautam is: A recovering lawyer, erstwhile entrepreneur, earnest educator, pretend polymath and future dilettante.
Gautam started out as a lawyer with a focus on intellectual property rights. Since then, he has been an entrepreneur and now works in the non-profit field within the folds of education and publishing. At Akshara Foundation he helps lead the Karnataka Learning Partnership project, and at Pratham Books helps build their social media presence, community strategy and continues to work on building an open source children’s book publishing model. He is an adviser to an organisation called Inclusive Planet which works in the print disability space and to Stir Education, a non-profit organisation that harnesses the innovation of the most dynamic teachers and schools to transform educational outcomes for the poorest children. Gautam was a TEDIndia Fellow in 2009, advises a few small startups in the legal, food and social entrepreneurship spaces and has been a founding board member of the Wikimedia India Chapter.
