This quote from Thomas Merton succinctly summed up our theme 'The Possibility of People' :
“You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith and hope.”
TEDx Sevenoaks, The Possibility of People showcased some extraordinary speakers sharing stories of either themselves of or others who have recognised the possibilities in the challenges they faced, embraced them and came up smiling :)
Speakers at TEDx Sevenoaks included author, journalist and TV presenter Alan Stevens who delighted and entertained us with his talk on the "Adventure that exists in all of us".
Mark Hodgson spoke about his return to England from Australia having spent some 17 years overseas and left us pondering what our UQ was.
Next up was young entrepreneur Owen Hunnam who took us through his journey as he launched a now very successful local magazine from his bedroom having dropped out of university.
Owen was followed by Andy Barton who, using the amazing story of the Olympian Wilma Rudolph, illustrated the huge power behind belief and explained how the body can actually have a physical reaction to what the mind believes.
Our final speaker was the inspirational Richard McCann, a Sunday Times No1. best selling author and subject of a BBC documentary. Richard shared his extraordinary and very moving life story of over-coming almost insurmountable odds to achieve peace, purpose and happiness.
We played the TEDx Derek Sivers video "How to Start a Movement" and we are happy to have been the 'lone nuts' stepping out to bring TEDx to Sevenoaks.
