About this event

In recent years we have witnessed national economies crash in the most developed parts of the globe. We have watched in anticipation as oppressed nations rose up to challenge dictatorial powers and as those same people continue their struggle, in want of more structural changes pursuant those revolutions. We have also witnessed democracies been called into question in the most unsuspecting places. Ecological disasters persist and intensify in all parts of the globe.

The education system seems to be producing very few who are able to think critically and creatively, who are unable to find employment or once they do, simply becomes cogs of a well oiled machine. We believe that unconventional responses are needed to address these challenges.

We believe that going off the grid will enable us to shape a different and better society. TEDxDurban will draw speakers from around the globe to share their ingenious and innovative responses to these challenges.
