TEDxDeadSeaSalon is an opportunity to be informed, inspired and entertained by enthusiastic speakers from around the world who have amazing ideas worth spreading despite time barriers and physical distances. It is also a chance to discuss controversial issues that shape our beliefs and govern our lives in an attempt to become more conscious and conscientious.

TEDxDeadSeaSalon will take place once a week, where we will be screening a TED talk, a TEDxDeadSea Talk, and/or a TEDx Talk, in addition to an entertaining live performance or speaker. A discussion among the audience will be held afterwards on the ideas presented and we will host a TEDxDeadSea speaker to lead a live discussion on his/her TEDx Talk when possible. The Salon is going to be thematically based, where each theme shall be completed within a monthly cycle. Our first cycle is Education. Accordingly, the first Salon will be conducted in Amman, and repeated in another Jordanian city the following week. This cycle will be repeated bi-weekly, where the duration of every cycle is a month. This is to enable as many people interested as possible to have the opportunity to participate.

Muna Awad

Education has always been a priority in Muna Awad’s life, as a source of continuous personal growth. Muna grew up in a household that appreciated talent and creativity and provided her with the tools to excel in formal education. As a result of this support, Muna is an accomplished singer and musician, playing the keyboard, Oud and guitar. Her father also is an inspiration as the founder of the Modern Language Center, established in 1970 as the premier Jordanian institute to learn English. Completing her Master’s degree in Education at Bath University in England recently provided an opportunity to paint a new vision of how parents and communities can positively support children in their life education.

Khalida Qattash

Long before pursuing a B.A. degree in Literature, and an M.A. in Education, Mrs. Qattash knew she wanted to teach. As a student, the idea of taking without giving has always been a haunting one that led her, early in life, to the conclusion that learning has to be reciprocal even if one is a teacher, especially when one is to be a teacher; people don’t grow otherwise. Accordingly, Khalida’s journey, which started as a substitute teacher in public schools, to her position now at The Ahliyyah School for Girls as a teacher of Language, Literature, and Theory of Knowledge and Head of the Library and Media Center, has enabled her to crystallize what she consider to be her mission in life: to provoke.
