In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Marina - Ismini Ioannatou, Vasia Zorbali & Team

Marina Ismene Ioannatou was born in Italy. She started dancing at a young age. She is a distinguished graduate of the Athens’ National School of Dance, a graduate of R.A.D. and has attended international seminars on dance and choreography. She has performed with the Rallou Manou Greek Dance Theatre, in productions of the Greek National School of Dance and has created her own dance productions and co-operations. She has published articles on the topic of dance and technology in scientific magazines in Athens, Australia, and Germany. In 2010, she founded the “À Petits Pas” Dance school. Vasia Zorbali was born in Athens. She is a distinguished graduate of the Professional Dance School of Rallou Manou. She has attended international seminars on modern and classical dance, contact and improvisation. She has been dancing since 2008. Since 2013 she has been working in education and choreography, while teaching movement lessons at grammar and middle schools in the municipality of Vyronas.

Vortex of Sound

Οι Vortex Of Sound είναι μία μπάντα που δημιουργήθηκε το 2014 και δραστηριοποιείται κυρίως στο νησί της Λέσβου. Το ρεπερτόριό της καλύπτει ένα ευρύ μουσικό φάσμα, με έμφαση σε soul και funk ήχους. Έχει κάνει μία σειρά εμφανίσεων σε διάφορα μπαράκια και μουσικές σκηνές του νησιού. Καθένα από τα μέλη του συγκροτήματος έχει αρκετά χρόνια εμπειρία σε διάφορα μουσικά σχήματα. Μέλη: Γιάννης Βαφιώτης (Πλήκτρα), Βασίλης Μούσκουρης (Κιθάρα, φωνή), Γιώργος Ρούτσης (Μπάσο), Μανώλης Δουγραματζής (Τύμπανα), Βίκυ Χατζηγιαννάκη (Φωνή). Vortex of Sound is a music band which was formed in 2014 and performs mainly in the island of Lesvos, Greece. Their repertoire covers a wide array of music genres, fucusing mainly on soul and funk. Its members are seasoned artists with extensive experience with other bands. Members: Giannis Vafiotis (Keyboards), Vassilis Mouskouris (Guitar, Vocals), George Routsis (Bass), Manolis Dougramatzis (Drums), Vicky Chatzigiannaki (Vocals).

Chris (Χρήστος) Valasellis (Βαλασέλλης)

Ο Χρήστος Βαλασέλλης γεννήθηκε στο Σίδνεϊ και κατάγεται από τη Λέσβο, όπου ζει και εργάζεται για περισσότερα από τριάντα χρόνια. Το παιδικό του πάθος για τα ηλεκτρονικά και ειδικότερα για τις τηλεοράσεις, τον οδήγησε να ασχοληθεί, ως «πειρατής» στην αρχή, με το ραδιόφωνο και αργότερα με την τηλεόραση και τους υπολογιστές, προσπαθώντας πάντα να ξεφεύγει από τα συνηθισμένα, να δημιουργεί κάτι καινοτόμο. Συνδυάζοντας τα τρία ενδιαφέροντά του ίδρυσε το 1998 στη Μυτιλήνη, την εταιρεία λογισμικού «Jazler Software», που αναπτύσσει την «σουΐτα» προγραμμάτων αυτοματισμού για ραδιοφωνικούς και τηλεοπτικούς σταθμούς, με την ονομασία «Jazler». Το λογισμικό της εταιρείας σήμερα χρησιμοποιείται από σταθμούς σε όλο τον κόσμο. Παράλληλα είναι ιδιοκτήτης του ραδιοφωνικού σταθμού POP FM και έχει υπάρξει ιδιοκτήτης ενός πρότυπου πειραματικού τηλεοπτικού σταθμού με μουσικό πρόγραμμα, του RAGE.

Eva (Εύα) Tsourou (Τσούρου)

Eva is a dancer specialized in aerial acrobatics. She was born in Mytilene, Lesvos and during the last decade she has built an international career in dance, circus and corporal theatre. Η Εύα είναι χορεύτρια, εναέρια ακροβάτης . Γεννημένη στη Μυτιλήνη της Λέσβου έχει δουλέψει πλέον διεθνώς στο χώρο του χορού, του τσίρκου και του σωματικού θεάτρου για πάνω απο μια δεκαετία.

George (Γιώργος) Tyrikos - Ergas (Τυρίκος - Εργάς)

George Tyrikos Ergas was born in Kalymnos. He is a PhD student in Folklore at University of Ioannina. He studied Classical Philology, Egyptian hieroglyphics, cuneiform and comparative literature in several universities such as University of Cyprus, University of Notre Dame (America), Sorbonne, Paris 1, Paris 3 (Paris). He was awarded a science fiction prize and he is a founding member of the NGO “Agkalia” in Kalloni, Lesvos. He is currently a Researcher Assistant in the University of Durham, Department of Anthropology contributing in an ESRC project related to the migration issue in the Mediterranean.

Giorgos (Γιώργος) Kontellis (Κοντέλλης)

Ο Γιώργος Κοντέλλης είναι καθηγητής Φυσικής και υπεύθυνος σχολικού εργαστηρίου Φυσικών Επιστημών Γενικού Λυκείου της Μυτιλήνης. Το 2008 στον Πανελλήνιο, Πανευρωπαϊκό και Παγκόσμιο επίπεδο στον Διαγωνισμό Πρωτοπόρων Δασκάλων, που διοργανώθηκε από την Microsoft διακρίθηκε, μαζί με την ομάδα μαθητών του “Ικαρομένιππος” και για την δημιουργία ενός εκπαιδευτικού μοντέλου δορυφόρου στα πλαίσια του πρώτου εκπαιδευτικού διαγωνισμού CanSat (όπου επίσης έλαβε έπαινο δημιουργικότητας και καινοτομίας), άλλα και στην κατηγορία Excelent Research Project στον Ευρωπαϊκό διαγωνισμό e–skills 2012. Το 2012 δημιούργησε την ομάδα εκπαιδευτικής ρομποτικής του 3ου ΓΕΛ Μυτιλήνης, με την οποία συμμετείχε στον 3ο και 4ο Πανελλήνιο Διαγωνισμό Εκπαιδευτικής Ρομποτικής ενώ ήταν και ο υπεύθυνος καθηγητής των ομάδων Icaromenippus 3D και Aristarchus, που με τους εκπαιδευτικούς δορυφόρους που κατασκεύασαν έλαβαν το 2ο Ευρωπαϊκό Βραβείο στο 2ο και 3ο Ευρωπαϊκό διαγωνισμό CanSat αντίστοιχα.

Giorgos (Γιώργος) Kordas (Κόρδας)

George Kordas was born in Nikaia, Piraeus. He studied Physics and in particular Nuclear Physics, at the University of Erlangen in Germany. He completed his Ph.D. at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of the same University, specializing in Glass and Ceramics Technology. After completing military service, he was appointed at Vanderbilt University in the USA. He has also served as Associate Professor at the University the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. In 1990 he was appointed Research Director at the National Center of Scientific Research “Demokritos”. In 2015 he founded the company nano4chem, for the application of technologies developed at Demokritos. He is the main coordinator of a project funded by the European Research Council, entitled “Nano-container drug carriers for targeted treatment of prostate and breast cancer”, for extremely localized cancer chemotherapy.

Jane Waite

Jane Waite is a native of Lesvos Island and England. She works for the United Nations for years now focusing on World Food Programme. Within this context Jane Waite travels and lives in developing countries supporting humanitarian programmes that provide food supplies to regions affected by natural disasters and war. She is also involved in long-lasting development programmes assisting local communities to overcome the barriers they face on exploiting their creative force. In a second step, they practice together some techniques targeted in the optimal actuation of that force and on the enhancement of their strategy advantage. This concept is achieved with the aid of some UN programmes and also the governments’ support to local development. Her working experience extends over the world including countries such as Egypt, Soudan, Syria, Cambodia, Nepal, Malawi and Sierra Leone. She has also worked with NGOs such as Médicins du Monde and the Red Cross.

Lefteris (Λευτέρης) Charellis (Χαρέλης)

Lefteris Charellis was born in Athens and grew up in Lesvos. He is a graduate of Veaki Acting School and has been working on stage since 2008. He is an actor-singer in a street opera group and also is working with the National Opera of Greece. He has been the director of many stage/music productions, some of them for children. In the last few years he has been presenting a mime show, named Intermedius Show. Ο Λευτέρης Χαρέλλης γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα και μεγάλωσε στην Λέσβο. Εργάζεται στον θεατρικό χώρο απο το 2008 και είναι απόφοιτος της Δραματικής Σχολής “ΒΕΑΚΗ”. Έχει συμμετάσχει σε πολλές παραγωγές στο Θέατρο, ως ηθοποιός-τραγουδιστής σε ομάδα Όπερας δρόμου και συνεργάζεται με την Εθνική Λυρική Σκηνή. Έχει σκηνοθετήσει πολλά μουσικοθεατρικά δρώμενα/events αναλαμβάνοντας και την καλλιτεχνική επιμέλεια τους. Τα τελευταία χρόνια ασχολείται με την θεατρική τεχνική της αφηγηματικής μίμας (Intermedius Show) και πραγματοποιεί εμφανίσεις μαζί με συγκροτήματα σε μουσικές σκηνές της Αθήνας.

Lilly (Λίλη) Lambrelli (Λαμπρέλλη)

Lily Lambrelli grandfather’s family came from Aivali, on the shores of Asia Minor, and her grandmother’s from Lesvos, just off the coast. She was born in the port city of Piraeus, studied Law at university, along with some music. On graduating, she practised Law for a while, then spent many years as a translator with the European Union in Luxembourg and Brussels. Since 1998 she plunged deep into the world of fairy tales and have never surfaced since. Down this path she has met countless tale theorists and story-tellers, but the one she regards as her teacher is the French Henri Gougaud. She has published seventeen books. Among them, “The Hidden Water” won the IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) Award for 2011. Three of them are also available in audiobook format. She is an Astrid Lindgren Award for 2016 nominee.

Manto (Μαντώ) Rachovitsa (Ραχωβίτσα)

Dr Adamantia (Mando) Rachovitsa is an Assistant Professor of International Law. She studied law at Democritus University in Komotini and she read for her LLM in public international law at the Law School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 2013 she obtained her PhD in international law from the University of Nottingham (UK). Upon completion of her PhD, she took up an Assistant Professorship in public international law at the College of Law, Qatar University where she teaches public international law and human rights. She works towards nurturing future policy-makers coming from the Middle East who will be well educated and informed on international policy and human rights. She founded, and serves as the elected Secretary of, the Qatari Branch of the International Law Association – one of the very few Branches in the Middle East. She had collaborated with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Qatar and The Netherlands.

Nikitas (Νικήτας) Kanakis (Κανάκης)

Nikitas Kanakis was born in Athens, springs from Laconia. He studied dentistry at the University of Athens and mastered in pediatric dentistry and in dentistry of special patients at Leeds University in United Kingdom. He also studied National Medicine- Medical crisis management at Medicine School of Athens University. He has participated in several humanitarian and emergency medical missions around the world as the Secretary General of “Doctors of the World” and also from his current position as a President of that organization (Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Kosovo, Eritrea, Lebanon, Palestine, India, Turkey, etc). He played a significant role in the movement against trafficking in Greece and founded the first shelter for slave trading victims. He served as an unsalaried member in the special committee of Ministry of Interior regarding the treatment of slave trading (2003-2004), representing the society of citizens.

Stratos Kamenis

Stratos Kamenis, a native of Thermi, Lesvos, is an analyst of Commercial and Economic Policy and International Relations. He studied Political Science and International Relations in the Faculty of Political Sciences of Paris. His postgraduate studies took place at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, in Boston, where he specialized in International Economics and Finance. He has also studied at the American University of Cairo and at Cambridge University. As a researcher at the Carter Center, he worked alongside former US President Jimmy Carter and participated in negotiations between the transitional Egyptian government and the anti-establishment opposition of Tahrir Square. He has worked on international investment, trade and entrepreneurship in the United Nations and the Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD. In 2015 he provided research support to the negotiation coordination group of the European Union and the US for the TTIP.

Susana Noemi Abigador

Η Susana Noemi Abigador γεννήθηκε στο Buenos Aires, στην Αργεντινή. Ξεκινώντας με διαφορετικές τεχνικές γύρω από το χορό (στην Βραζιλία) και στο θέατρο, διάλεξε και κατέληξε στην Σωματική Έκφραση σαν τρόπο ζωής και εκπαίδευσης. Το 1979 συνεχίζει τις σπουδές στην Μαδρίτη, όπου αρχίζει τα πρώτα βήματα στην διδασκαλία της Σωματικής Έκφρασης σε σχολές θεάτρου και σε εκπαιδευτικούς (δασκάλους και νηπιαγωγούς). Το 1986 έρχεται για να ζήσει στη Αθήνα. Λίγους μήνες αργότερα έχει σχηματίσει την πρώτη ομάδα και μέχρι σήμερα διδάσκει Σωματική Έκφραση και το σύστημα Danza Vital που η ίδια δημιούργησε. Συνεργάζεται με το «Παιχνιδαγωγείο» , με το «Μουσείο Συναισθημάτων Παιδικής Ηλικίας με σχολές χορού θεάτρου, κέντρα art – therapy στην Ελλάδα και κατά καιρούς στην Κύπρο, Ισπανία και Αργεντινή. Έχει συνεργαστεί με θεατρικά σχήματα όπως το Θέατρο Τέχνης Κάρολος Κουν κ.α.
