Identity

Identity affects every human being on this planet, yet, it is a complex interplay of social, economic and cultural influences unique to each individual. This reflects on current experiences which many University students, in particular, may be struggling with. In a global context recent events have highlighted that accepting varying identities within established social frameworks is not always straight forward. It is for this reason that the TEDxWarwickSalon would like to bring to the fore a discussion surrounding how one discovers and shapes their identity given societal pressures upon them.

In light of this, our first salon event of 2014 will be themed around “Modern Day Identity”: our speakers will explore aspects of our sense of identity such as, our relationship with our bodies, our interaction with social media, and our gender assignment. Following each talk the audience will have an opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with the speaker. Additionally the conclusion of the talks will be followed by an open panel discussion on the theme of "Modern Day Identity".
