In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Maya Tsocli

Although Maya Tsoclis’ name is synonymous with travel journalism, she is in fact a true multi-tasker. Born in Paris, she started travelling at an early age, following her father who continuously moved abroad for business. She graduated from the French School of Athens and studied sociology in Paris. Maya has also been a member of the national swimming team and a member of the Hellenic Parliament. She recently became an entrepreneur as a founding member of a microbrewery on Tinos, while, since 2010, she has been a Greek Wine Ambassador. The documentary series “Travelling with Maya Tsoclis”, considered as the top travelling programme in Greece, has documented over 50 countries around the world and has been repeatedly honoured during the 14 years of its successful broadcast. Maya has been involved in the tourism industry from various positions of her journalist’s career and her brief participa- tion in politics. Last summer she started publishing TAMA magazine, the first free press magazine of Tinos. Currently she is shooting a new show for the Greek national television.

Stephanie Hospital

Stephanie Hospital is a senior executive with a proven track record in the Internet, telephone and media industries. She has recently embarked on a new venture, the foundation of One Ragtime, a global tech- nology investment fund and advisory company. She was executive Vice President at Orange and she’s currently a non-executive director for Dailymotion, Advisor for Mythings, the fastest growing ad tech firm in Europe in 2013, and Vice Chairman for the Internet Advertising Bureau Europe, representing more than 5,500 organizations. During her time at Orange she managed the Digital Business Unit, where she was responsible for a number of international subsidiaries in the digital field, major product lines such as cloud services, data and analytics, digital marketing and social media, applications and sites, online distribution, as well as the company’s global advertising network that spans over 795 million unique visi- tors across 5 continents and 60 countries. Stephanie was the one leading Orange’s digital acquisition of Dailymotion and its major partnerships with Google, Facebook, Twitter and Microsoft.

Andreas Souvaliotis

Andreas Souvaliotis is the founder of Green Rewards and later AIR MILES for Social Change, the world’s first national environmental and healthy lifestyle incentive programs. Trained twice by former US Vice President and Nobel laureate Al Gore, he chairs the national advisory committee on climate change for WWF Canada. His achievements in influencing and rewarding behaviour change on a mass scale have been recognized by global social responsibility leaders, including The Prince of Wales. As a lead- ing social entrepreneur in Canada, Αndreas writes and speaks across the country about social change, innovation and the emerging shared-value model. He also chairs the advisory board of the Centre for Responsible Leadership at Queen’s School of Business and serves on several other academic and non- profit boards. Souvaliotis is a very active member of the Young Presidents’ Organization, where he has served as national membership chair for Canada and chair of the Toronto chapter.

Chris Giannou

Christos Giannou is a Greek-Canadian war surgeon, who has served as chief surgeon at the Interna- tional Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Giannou has offered in situ first aid services in several conflict zones such as Afghanistan, Chechnya, Iraq, Lebanon, Liberia, and Somalia. After serving as medical coordinator of the ICRC campaign to ban anti-personnel landmines, he set up a hospital in Chechnya in 1996, where six of his colleagues were assassinated and then went to Geneva soon to become head sur- geon at the ICRC. Currently, Giannou continues to perform missions for the ICRC and other humanitarian organisations and serves as surgical consultant in Canada and Australia. As an academic, he teaches at the Universities of London and Athens. Giannou has been awarded with the Star of Palestine for his overall work while he was also inducted a Member of the Order of Canada. His life and work became the theme of the Cineflix film “On the borders of Abyss”, which was aired by the Canadian public television under the title “War surgeon: Chris Giannou”. Τoday he lives in Monemvassia in Greece.is on the steering committee of the European Venture Capital Network.

Dimitris Korres

Inventor, mechanical engineer and mountaineer, Dimitris Korres is certainly a man of many profes- sional skills ranging from rock climbing to engine repairs and constructions, including the construction of the first Greek high performance prototype automobile, known as Korres Project 4. As a mechanical engineer Dimitris has been involved in up to 40 heavy structure relocation projects in Greece and abroad, as well as projects on big job-site machinery (hydraulic and electromechanical). In collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and architect Manolis Korres, he has also undertaken numerous architectural survey plans and monument restorations. Dimitris has participated in the Venice Architectural Biennale, has won the 1st prize of the Greek Technical Chamber and was the technical planning supervisor of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games opening ceremony. Dimitris has also lectured on Monument Protection at the Athens Polytechnic School of Architecture. Moreover, he is a dedicated mountaineer and rock climber. With hundreds of hard climbs in Greece, Britain and the Alps, he holds an instructor’s diploma by the French Mountain Federation and has authored books on mountain climbing.

Dianna Cohen

LosAngeles-basedDiannaCohenisamultimediavisualartist andco-founderofthePlasticPollution Coalition, a global alliance of individuals, organizations and businesses that addresses the pervasive problem of plastic pollution. Best known for her artwork using recycled plastic bags, she was inspired to co-found the Plastic Coalition group through her own art. In 2010, Dianna was invited as a speaker at TED’s Mission Blue Voyage, among other top scientists, conservationists, and artists. Cohen has shown her work in solo and group exhibitions at galleries and museums around the world. This summer, Dian- na will continue her collaboration with the Drifter’s Project and the Sustainable Island Model Laboratory in Kefalonia. The project is a collaboration between the Ionion Center for Arts and Culture, the University of Technology, Sydney and the Plastic Pollution Coalition. The options developed will be presented to local and international businesses and policy makers to promote Kefalonia as a top eco-tourism destination and a model for other Greek islands and island nations of the world.

Prodromos Nikiforidis

With the regeneration of the waterfront in Thessaloniki being his most recent project, Prodromos Niki- foridis has gained international reputation for his repeatedly awarded work in the sector of public space architecture. Born in Heraklion, Crete, Nikiforidis studied Architecture in Toulouse and continued with post-graduate studies in Cultural History at Toulouse–Le Mirail University and Urban Planning at Sor- bonne. NIkiforidis’ vast experience in urban design led him to participate - along with Bernard Cuomo, with whom he runs a private architecture office - in various tender competitions. He has received several awards at international competitions such as EUROPAN and Rethink Athens. His contribution to the re- generation of the urban landscape of Thessaloniki is reflected in a number of notable city projects includ- ing: the Theatre & Cultural Centre of the Municipality of Menemeni, the Technopolis (ICT Business Park), a new building for the Bank of Greece, as well as the redesigning project the historical axis of Aristotle Square. Nikiforidis and Cuomo were recognised for their total 2004-2008 work by being awarded the Hellenic Institute of Architecture Prize for 2009.

Tim Rylands

A passionate teacher with over 25 years of classroom experience, including 4 years in West Africa, Tim Rylands has developed a unique teaching style aiming to allow children to express their creativity and make significant gains in attainment. Described as “an extremely gifted and inspirational teacher, with a love of the creative potential of technology and an excellent rapport with his pupils”, Tim is a firm believer that information and communications technology (ICT) is more about communication than about tech- nology. Tim has integrated computer games and Web 2.0 technologies in many areas of the curriculum to enhance children’s confidence, collaboration, interaction and creativity. For his innovative use of Infor- mation and communications technology (ICT) in teaching he has received a vast amount of press cover- age, and has been featured on BBC, Teachers TV, CNN, The Times, The Guardian, The Independent and many more. Among other things, Tim is also well known for the musicals he has written for children, which have been performed to great acclaim.

Christos Chomenidis

Α prominent Greek novelist, Christos was born in Athens in 1966 and has been living in the Kypseli district ever since. He became widely known from his very first novel “The wise kid”, which was enthusi- astically received by readers and critics. Chomenidis has also been contributing op-ed articles in leading Greek newspapers and magazines, while in the past he used to run his own radio show for almost a decade. After graduating from Law School at the University of Athens, he pursued further legal studies at the Lomonosov Moscow State University and then studied Communications at the University of Leeds. He has written and published six more novels and three collections of short stories. His novels center around Athens and post-dictatorship Greece while featuring a subversive sense of humor and a pinch of irony. His books have exceeded 400,000 copies and have been translated in several languages. In 2013 he represented Greece in “Marseille - European capital of culture”.

Christian Heilmann

Christian Heilmann is the principal evangelist for Mozilla, with a focus on the Open Web and HTML5. He is a man that has dedicated a lot of his time into making the Web a better place for all of us. Originally coming from a radio journalism background, he built his first website from scratch around 1997 and for several years worked on lots of large international Web projects. Christian spent a few years in Yahoo building products and training people while nowadays he works at Mozilla. Chris has authored and co- authored various books on Web development and has written hundreds of articles and blog posts for Ajaxian, Smashing Magazine, ScriptJunkie and many more. He is a very busy keynote speaker at con- ferences and helps people communicate and become spokespeople for technology through evangelism training programs.

Myrto Papadopoulos

Photographer and documentary filmmaker, Myrto was born in Athens, studied at the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University and completed her postgraduate studies at the International Center of Photography in New York. In 2013 she received the best emerging photographer of the year award by the Magenta Foundation. She has appeared and received honours in important photographic festivals like the Mois de la Photo - OFF, the New York Photo Festival and the Athens Photo Festival. Myrto believes that the creation of documentaries goes hand in hand with social action. In the documentary “The At- tendants” she aims to raise social awareness on the sensitive issues of prostitution and sex-trafficking in crisis-stricken Greece. At the same time, she has created art workshops trying to improve the living conditions of the victims. “The Attendants” was presented at the European Parliament, as an example of an art project raising social awareness. Myrto works both with print and online media worldwide like TIME Magazine, Le Monde, Neue Zuger Zeitung, The NYT LENS while living and working in Greece.

Satyabrata Dam

An ex-Indian Marines officer with 22 years of service, Satya is an extreme mountaineer with over 38 years of adventure career. He is the only person in the world to have successfully led expeditions to the three poles – Mount Everest, the North and South Pole. Satya has climbed the highest peaks of all seven continents, including multiple Everest summits and over 350 peaks worldwide across all major moun- tain ranges. Satya became a lover of mountains when, at the age of ten, he stepped on his first Himalayan Glacier and felt that the mountains would become his home, his friends and family. Some of Satya’s ma- jor adventures include circumnavigation in a sailboat, walking the length of Africa from Tunisia to South Africa,traversingtheSilkRoutefromMongoliatoIstanbul,andskiingacrosstheGreenlandicecap. With a lifetime commitment to save the planet, Satya is a green activist and leads ice-study field expeditions to the Polar Regions. Satya is also a TED Fellow and has published books on climbing and fiction.

Carlos Eduardo Espinal

Listed among the 100 people in 2014 that shape the world around us by Wired Magazine, Carlos is a part- ner and co-founder of Seedcamp, Europe’s premier micro seed investment and mentoring programme for young entrepreneurs. Since 2010 Seedcamp has invested in more than 100 start up companies, helping the entrepreneurial community in Europe by connecting next generation developers and young entrepreneurs with over 2,000 mentors from a top-tier network of company builders. He professionally shifted closer to his love for tech and startups, while working as a venture capitalist and, before that, as a network security consultant and as an engineer for the Advanced Communications Technologies group of The New York Stock Exchange (SIAC). Carlos holds an MBA from the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College and a B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University. In 2005, he received the Paul F. GreeneTelecommunicationsResearchAward.Inhissparetime,he enjoysphotography,bloggingand is on the steering committee of the European Venture Capital Network.

Diana Wais

Clinical psychologist Diana Wais has dedicated her career as a therapist and academic to the understand- ing of human psychology and to making people’s life better. As a marital and individual therapist she has worked with people at all levels of emotional functioning. Her research on emotional development in early childhood has been translated in more effective therapies, prevention and education programs. Invited by the former Vice President Al Gore to consult on a panel of experts, Diana was also an advisor to the Skoll Foundation on the psychological underpinnings of successful social entrepreneurs. She holds a PhD and a Masters degree in clinical psychology from the State University of New York, and a Masters degree in politi- cal science from Stanford University. She has worked at numerous specialty clinics, in-patient psychiatric wards, GP surgeries, and hospitals. Her work also involves training psychologists and psychiatrists as a Senior Faculty of the Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) Institute. Currently, as an academic she works at the London Business School on executive education programs.

George Lois

IBorn in New York in 1931, George Lois is considered one of the leaders in the field of visual commu- nication and advertising of the last 50 years. Known as the instigator of the Great Idea in advertising, he was a pioneer of the Creative Revolution that took place in American advertising in the 60s. Lois was the creative director of Esquire magazine from 1962 to 1972, designing some of the most iconic covers of all time for its issues, 38 of which are housed in the permanent collection of the MoΜA, New York. He also designed the campaigns of major U.S. media, politicians and multinational companies. Lois is the only one so far to have been honored with both highest distinctions in advertising, The Art Directors Hall of Fame and The One Club Creative Hall of Fame. He has received awards for his lifetime achievements by the American Institute of Graphic Arts, CLIO, and the Society of Publication Designers. He has written a total of 10 books, which are taught in universities around the world.
