TEDxVienna will engage the most fascinating speakers coming together for one afternoon to lay out and share their visions for the future. Vienna represents a crossroads between East and West, is home to extraordinary people and provides the world with excellent research and ideas. TEDxVienna is dedicated to showcasing this brilliance and enabling these great ideas to spread. We've gathered thinkers and doers from various backgrounds such as technology, entertainment, design, art, science and business, all intertwining in a unique conversational milieu.

Jessica White

Jessica is an Art Education facilitator, a curator and writer. She is founder of several international projects in Austria, Japan and UK that explore the central importance of creativity to engage, rather then being arbitary information gathering. In Vienna, she has been developing a variety of creative education projects in association with Michael Wimmer at EDUCULT in Museums Quartier. Amoung her projects have been the ACES (Association of Central and European Schools) an association funded by the Erste Foundation. With this she linked schools in Vienna with Budapest and Romania through creative exchanges. Other projects in Austria have been in association with ZOOM museum, University of Vienna, Berlitz, Kulturkontakt, Waldzell Institute, Interkulturelles Zentrum, Earth Charter and most recently, a music video with immigrants from Afganistan and West Africa at Schmiede.ca, Hallein sponsored by Land Salzburg.

Johannes Grenzfurthner

Johannes Grenzfurthner is an artist, writer, curator, and director. He is the founder of monochrom, an internationally acting art and theory group. He holds a professorship for art theory and art practice at the University of Applied Sciences in Graz, Austria. He is head of the "Arse Elektronika" festival in San Francisco, host of "Roboexotica" (Festival for Cocktail-Robotics, Vienna and San Francisco), and co-curates the Paraflows Symposium in Vienna. Herbert Nitsch

Gregoire Cosendai

Gregoire Cosendai, Electrical Engineer from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne, PhD on artificial hearing with electrical stimulation of the auditory nerve. 15 years of experience in neurostimulation in hearing, musculoskeletal and vision. Currently European director for Second Sight Medical Products, who is launching the first retinal implant to restore vision to the blind. Alongside publishing scientific papers in reviewed journals, he also is the founder of the first student radio in Switzerland, creator of a landmines awareness project for 6000 youngsters worldwide and has established a welfare project for homeless in Geneva, Switzerland. Mr. Cosendai has given a great number of scientific presentations in international meetings such as the International Functional Stimulation Society in Maroochydoore, Australia or the Neural Prosthesis Workshop organized by the National Institute of Health, Bethesda, Maryland.

Andreas Blumauer

Andreas Blumauer studied Computer Sciences and Business Administration and started his career as a software developer for financial services. In 1998 he co-founded punkt.net Services, a specialised software company, which has developed several national and international knowledge platforms. He is a managing partner at the Semantic Web Company and responsible for several consultancy projects. Andreas is lecturer at University of Applied Sciences in Vienna - FHWien and at Danube Univerity Krems in the areas of Knowledge Management Systems and Semantic Technologies.

Sava Dalbokov

Born and grew up in Sofia, Bulgaria. Completed university studies (economics, finance and business) in the USA. Joined Erste Bank in Vienna in September 1997 to support its strategic expansion to Central and Eastern Europe, including the acquisitions of the largest retail banks in the Czech and Slovak Republics. Moved to the Managing Board of Erste Bank Croatia in March 2002: through a combination of organic growth and targeted acquisitions Erste Bank Croatia advanced to become the third largest bank in the country. In April 2006 took over the CEO position at Erste Bank Serbia (shortly after its acquisition), to lead the transformation and integration process into the Erste Bank Group. Became CEO of good.bee Holding in January 2009, the microfinance and social entrepreneurship initiative of Erste Group and ERSTE Foundation. Developed the business strategy and operating models for good.bee's launch throughout the Erste Group. Joined the managing board of the Steiermarkische Sparkasse in Graz, Austria in October 2010 to assume the strategic development responsibility for the banks international operations. Florian Brody

Florian Brody grew up in Vienna where he studied computer linguistics, worked as a fashion photographer and a software engineer at the Austrian National Library and he built the multimedia market for Apple Austria in the 1980s. In 1991 he co-invented and produced the first electronic books at the Voyager Company in Santa Monica, California and worked on the TED2 Laserdisc project. Florian built a digital media consulting practice in Vienna and went back to the Silicon Valley in 1997 to build an Internet start-up. He has extensive experience in marketing for start-ups and currently serves as head of marketing for Cimbal Inc. a company developing a mobile payment solution. Florian actively promotes to collaboration between Austria and the Silicon Valley and has initiated an incubator for Austrian companies. He was founding president of ASCINA, the Association of Austrian Scientists in North America. Florian held the chair for Multimedia Studies, University of Applied Sciences, Salzburg and was a member of the Graduate Faculty at the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena. He represented Austria at TED4 Kobe and is a frequent speaker at events worldwide.

Daniel Grumiller

Daniel is a theoretical physicist doing black hole research since 1999. He spent five years as postdoc at the Leipzig University and at MIT. In 2008 he returned to Vienna and won one of the Austrian START-prizes, which allowed him to build a research group at the TU Vienna. Besides his collaborations with MIT, ESA, MPI and 20 other research institutions Daniel is dedicated to outreach activities, particularly with the webpage teilchen.at, which became prominent during the Austrian CERN crisis in May 2009. Daniel remains mystified about Austrian science politics and discovered recently a new force at large distances, the Rindler force.

Josef Prusa

Josef Prusa born and raised in the Czech Republic was never satisfied with things as they are. Fascinated with the way things work, Josef would find better ways on how he could improve it. In several cases, totally change to a brand new use than what it was originally designed for. At the age of 18 he already published his own chapter in book by O'reilly called iPhone hacks. Since then he makes more and more uses for stuff. In 2010 his main focus of work has shifted to developing Open Source 3D printer project called RepRap (http://reprap.org) and Open Source Hardware generally.

Tomas Rousek

Architect Tomas Rousek is CEO at architecture and design company A-ETC based in EU and Japan. He focuses on terrestrial and space architecture, digital design and internet development. He cooperates with NASA Habitation Team, NASA New Media Innovation Team and Neuroscience laboratory at NASA Johnson Space Center. He is also co-founder of non-profit organization Futura Pragensis and presented his works in 16 galleries in Europe and America. Now he is preparing project Vortex for cleaning the trash island in the middle of Northern Pacific.
