Den kendte palæontolog Jack Horner har brugt sin karriere på at rekonstruere en dinosaur. Han har fundet fossiler med ekstraordinært velbevarede blodkar og blødvæv; men aldrig noget intakt DNA. Så, som en ny angrebsvinkel, tager han levende afkom af dinosaure (kyllinger) og modificerer dem genetisk for at reaktivere forfædres træk - deriblandt tænder, haler og endog hænder - for at skabe en "kylligesaurus".
