MIT研究員デブ・ロイは、まだ赤ちゃんの息子がどうやって言語を習得するのか解明すべく家中にカメラを取り付けました。子どもの日常を(例外を除いて)すべて撮影し、9万時間に及ぶホームビデオを整理し、「ガー」という発音が時間をかけてゆっくりと「ウォーター」に変わりゆく軌跡を聴かせてくれます。人はどう学習するのでしょう。驚愕するようなデータにあふれた研究成果を深い含蓄を織り交ぜて語ります。
