In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Ryan Makhani

With a background ranging from engineering and entrepreneurship to teaching and education leadership — Ryan Makhani offers a unique perspective on learning and personal development. From Silicon Valley companies to non-profits, Ryan has lived and worked in San Francisco, London, Atlanta, New York and Houston. Ryan is currently pursuing Learning and Development within the Legaltech sector. As a former teacher within the Ismaili Muslim Community, he witnessed firsthand the cognitive, emotional, and social barriers that make the learning process so arduous. This inspired him to start BuildMyIdea and MyCollegeMap as ventures to empower innovative youth leadership. His multi-disciplinary background includes a BS in Electrical Engineering from UCLA, a Master's in Muslim Societies and Civilizations from the Institute of Ismaili Studies and Master's in Teaching from University of London. In his talk, Ryan draws upon his diverse experiences to challenge common myths and misconceptions about how people learn. He advocates for an approach that encourages unlearning outdated beliefs and pushing one's boundaries.

Sam Kabert

At 31 years old, Sam made Silicon Valley’s 40 under 40 list recognizing his serial entrepreneur hustle and million dollar business. Externally, Sam appeared successful. Internally, he was falling apart. In 2019, a ruptured relationship revealed feelings of overwhelm gone unnoticed by decades of indulgence in food, alcohol, and business achievements. Ego aside, he embraced a path of self-discovery, spirituality, and soul purpose. An intentional journey that’s culminated in a proven, minutes-long, 6 Step B.R.E.A.T.H. Process that now helps “busy professionals” access inner peace and “Overcome The Overwhelm,” the title of his newest book launching in April. Passionate about bridging the gap between workplace culture and mental health, Sam’s mission is to teach accessible tools that overcome overwhelm. His ultimate goal is to help eradicate the glorification of Hustle Culture, while encouraging an expansion of Compassionate Leadership.
