TEDx Lakefield College School aims to inspire and motivate students to be change-makers by pursuing their interests and passions. The event aims to expose students to diverse topics from different speakers that will leave them in awe. The speaker at this event will bring different perspectives and experiences that will spark students' curiosity and help them learn more about themselves and the world around them.

Babin Joy

Engagement & Services Coordinator
Babin Joy moved to Canada and began his career at Trent University as a Convocation & Events Assistant. He later seconded as a Development Officer - Annual Leadership Giving and currently works as Alumni Engagement & Services Coordinator. In his current role, he is primarily responsible for growing affinity programs, leading initiatives and services for alumni, cultivating volunteer relationships, and working with regional leaders and campus partners on alumni engagement opportunities. Babin is also a member of the Board of Directors at the Kawartha Haliburton Children & Foundation, supporting enrichment programs for children, youth, and families involved with the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society.

Cory Miller

Educator/Guidance
Cory Miller is a counselor who understands the challenges that students navigate in the university admissions process. A frequent presenter at conferences in the field, Cory believes in advocacy and knowledge to better serve students. Cory holds undergraduate and teaching degrees, as well as the Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA.

Emma Kaszechki

Educator/Ph.D. candidate in the Environmental and Life Sciences
Emma Kaszecki is a Ph.D. candidate in the Environmental and Life Sciences program at Trent University. Her research uses molecular biology and analytical chemistry to assess whether the microalgae Euglena mutabilis can be used as a sustainable tool for environmental cleanup. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences. In addition to her research, Emma served as the President of the Trent Graduate Students& Association from 2022-2024 and she currently sits on the Trent University Board of Governors.

Libby Dalrymple

Director of Thrive & Educator
Libby Dalrymple is a teacher and Director of THRIVE at Lakefield College School. She has undergraduate degrees in Arts and Education - with a focus on Outdoor and Experiential Education. Through the Flourishing Center, she is certified in Applied Positive Psychology and as a Trainer in Positive Education. She is a member of the Board of Friends of Honduran Children. Libby believes in the power of curiosity. She enjoys supporting and encouraging young people to explore the world around them and the world of possibilities that lies within them.

Susie Wang

Student Speaker
Susie Wang is a grade 9 student at Lakefield College School. Susie grew up in the city of Shanghai in China. She is passionate about standing up for what is right and constantly exploring new ways to learn and grow. Whether it's in the classroom or on the field, she thrives on challenges and teamwork. Susie is known for her positivity and leadership. She is a person who is always ready to lend a hand and support her peers. She is determined to stand up for fairness and equality and work hard to achieve her goals. Susie is a firm believer in seizing every opportunity and making the most of each day.
