TEDxSpokane: Knowing it Again will create a setting where ideas are re-examined and your current understanding may be challenged. TEDxSpokane has the same mission as TED and that is: “To spread ideas worth sharing.” We look forward to bringing people together from the Inland Empire to share ideas and generate new meaning and actions. This year’s topics include: technology, leadership, business, art, literature, psychology, relationships, food, sleep and music. There will be opportunities to visit with speakers and other attendees to share ideas and to explore TEDx adventures. Alan Chatham

Artist + Designer
Alan Chatham uses art and technology to improve public spaces in creative ways. Formerly a researcher studying how people play in urban spaces and how they interact with public technology infrastructure, Chatham currently runs Laboratory, a storefront space supporting public interactive art, and works for Window Dressing, a program that places art and creative entrepreneurs in vacant storefronts in Spokane, Washington

Brooke Martin

Entrepreneur + Student
Brooke is a 15-year-old entrepreneur from Spokane, Washington. Her career was launched at Startup Weekend Spokane in the Fall of 2012. At age 12, she pitched an innovative way for dog owners to video chat with their pets and deliver a treat from anywhere using their smartphone, tablet, or computer. iCPooch went into production in July of 2014 and is now available for purchase in the United States and Canada. Brooke and iCPooch have been featured on Shark Tank, NBC Evening News, CBS News, FOX News, NPR, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Meredith Viera Show and other media. Brooke is currently working on her latest invention, iCLovedOnes, a device that lets you video chat with an aging relative and remotely deliver their medication. She is currently a junior at Saint George’s School in Spokane.

Ceci Garrett

Advocate
Ceci Garrett is the founder and Executive Director of Lightening the Load, a ministry that works to connect those in the Spokane area with resources and hope as they unclutter their homes, lives, and relationships. Her work to raise awareness about the effects hoarding disorder has on the family and the community stems from her personal experiences growing up with a hoarding parent. Ceci received her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Liberty University and recently began offering in-home clutter coaching through her business, Hoarding Consultants Northwest.

Jonathan Wisor

Associate Professor of Medical Sciences + Sleep Researcher
Dr. Wisor is an Associate Professor of Medical Sciences at the WSU Spokane Health Sciences Campus. He runs the Wisor Lab to identify functional consequences of sleep and sleep loss within the nervous system. Dr. Wisor has Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Pennsylvania State University, a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of California, Los Angeles, and served as a postdoctoral fellow and subsequently as a research associate at Stanford University School of Medicine. From 2004 through 2008 he was a staff scientist at SRI International, a non-profit research institute in Menlo Park, California.

Kent Hoffman

Clinician + Attachment Researcher
Kent Hoffman is a clinician, attachment researcher, and co-founder of the Circle of Security program. His life work has included building intervention approaches for at-risk families dealing with parenting stress. Dr. Hoffman travels extensively throughout North America, Europe and Australia teaching professionals. His personal journey can be found at www.eightysevenminutes.com.

Kris Dinnison

Author
Kris Dinnison spent nearly two decades as a teacher and librarian, while dreaming of becoming a writer. She lives in Spokane, Washington with her husband and two cats named Raymond and Moon Pie. Her first novel, You and Me and Him, was released in July 2015 from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

Lisa Iversen

Lisa is the Founding Director of the Center for Ancestral Blueprints where she developed programs such as the Family Matters Immersion Series, An Embodied Conversation with the Internalized Colonizer, and Making Love Visible Retreats. Lisa developed the BOB + BART approach to strengthening one's capacity for engaging with power, love, and work, in collaboration with Kate Regan, president of Kairos Consulting Group. Lisa is the author of the book, Ancestral Blueprints: Revealing Invisible Truths in America's Soul.

Matthew Chase

Professor + Leadership
Dr. Matthew Chase is a professor of Recreation and Tourism Management at Eastern Washington University. He also serves as Co-chair for the Department of Physical Education, Health, and Recreation. Dr. Chase has been working in the field of higher education for over 25 years.

Mattie Bamman

Writer
Mattie John Bamman is a writer and editor focused on food, travel, and poetry. Wine, wilderness, and words brought him to Portland, Oregon, where he serves as editor of Eater Portland and regularly writes for Northwest Travel Magazine. Mattie has contributed to 11 books on culinary travel and 9 travel guides to Italy and the United States, and he also provides developmental editing services to help others write books. Owen Marcus

Group Leader + Masculinity
Owen’s journey in healing his dyslexia and Asperger’s Syndrome led him to see a bigger challenge, one that we all face: how to connect emotionally with others. Like many men, Owen was never taught how to relate emotionally to others as a man. Through twenty years designing and redesigning men’s groups, he found a way to provide to men what they were missing. Owen now teaches men how to start their own men’s groups and how to lead men’s groups. The documentary movie, About Men, reveals the innermost workings of the Sandpoint Men’s Group, the group he started in 2005. And in his book Grow Up: A Man’s Guide to Masculine Emotional Intelligence, Owen teaches men – and women – what men were never taught.

He is an in-demand speaker who holds many accreditations and industry certifications showcasing his technical and business prowess.

Robert Lombardi

Chef
Award-winning Chef, Robert Lombardi is a member of the American Culinary Federation and holds various professional certifications. In addition to his professional Chef duties in the area, he is a Culinary Educator and Pastry Chef at the Inland Northwest Culinary Academy at Spokane Community College. Chef Lombardi is also involved with community service with many charitable events and Foundation fundraising throughout the Spokane Community. He has a competitive side as well, appearing on the Food Network Challenge in seasons 1, 3 and 4.

Sarah Wolcott

Wine Blogger
Wine educator, tour guide, creator of wine trade experiences and communications and champion of wine as a daily beverage choice, Sarah's relationship with wine is firmly rooted in agriculture. She grew up on a cherry and apple farm in SE Washington State and continually admires how much time on the tractor, and hands, are involved in creating a single bottle of wine.

Tim Gales

Student, Musician
Active as a classically trained cellist as well as a rock vocalist and drummer, Tim Gales blends the styles and sensibilities of the rock and classical worlds in his compositions. Having studied cello under Dr. John Marshall, he has performed with the EWU Symphony Orchestra and with EWU chamber ensembles, as well as staging recitals of classical and contemporary cello repertoire. As a solo artist he has produced pop, folk, and progressive rock recordings and performed sensitive interpretations of the music of artists such as Frank Sinatra and Joni Mitchell. Future engagements include the premiere of his compositions for the Evnika Trio and the release of his debut solo album.
