Help for Young People: Catalyst or Safety Net? (with BSL)

Young people have been hit hardest by the pandemic economically and socially. To help them recover from the pandemic, some have suggested we need a Universal Basic Income – a safety net to stop them falling into poverty. But is this addressing the wrong problem? Sir Julian Le Grand, professor of Social Policy at LSE and named one of the top British public intellectuals, argues that they don’t need a safety net – rather they need a springboard to help launch themselves into adult life.
