TEDxMAIS
• January 2019
In this poignant recollection of a series of her own experiences, Reema Sengupta tries to reconstruct the conception of the idea for her award-winning short, ‘Counterfeit Kunkoo’. This talk explores her engagement with filmmaking as a medium of catharsis and in the process calls for the audience to channel their own grief into creative expression.
Reema wrote, directed and edited Counterfeit Kunkoo, a short film that explores the social prejudice prevalent in the Indian housing system - that a woman without a man at her side is not worth lending a house to. The film had its world premiere at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival where it represented the entire Indian sub-continent. It was the first Indian short film to be selected at Sundance in 16 years. Its festival journey continues strong with 35+ awards and 110+ film festival selections.
