Dr. Love explains music's important role in politics. Music is far more than an art form composed to entertain an audience, and when we listen to music, perform it, rehearse or practice it, compose it, dance to it, we are doing something, not just passively experiencing it. She explains that the very features that make music seem marginal -- emotional appeals, physical responses -- often give it the power to mobilize citizens.
