There is a stigma on self-talk as an outcome of mental distress, but the technique of "self-talk" when appropriately used not only shows empirically studied rises in an ability to regulate emotions, to focus, to identify new opportunities, and to see the world as a welcoming place. Furthermore, self-talk is especially essential for people of color or women who have been raised in a predominantly white, male, financially stable, thin, heterosexual, and Christian mainstream.
