Joe Slattery talks about his own experience of growing up in a socially deprived area of Ireland and how horses helped him cope in that environment. Joe has worked in the area of family support and crisis intervention in a community setting for the past 10 years. He actively sits on a number of steering committees and management boards for services that provide supports to vulnerable teens and their families. He has been working as an addiction counsellor for the past 7 years. He specialises in working with adolescents who have substance misuse issues and their families. Joe is the Irish network coordinator for the Equine Assisted Growth & learning association (EAGALA) and currently the only member in Ireland with advanced certification in this modality. Joe’s talk will focus on the benefits of the EAGALA model when working with youths with emotional and behavioural issues.
