Thistle, also called the wild artichoke, is a plant native and very common to the western and central Mediterranean region, where it was used since the ancient times, as medicine and also as food for domesticated animals. Spiros Kizis started a project, focused on the alternative use of wild artichokes in product design. The aim was to produce a design through novel materials exploration, that would be about questioning not only the materials and processes used to produce products and furniture, but also the systems behind this industry, from material extraction, fabrication, distribution and use to product disposal. Artichair is the world's first chair, made of wild artichoke residues and bio resin. Designed and made by KIZI Design Studio.
