Thank you very much. Now, I've got a story for you. When I arrived off the plane, after a very long journey from the West of England, my computer, my beloved laptop, had gone mad, and had — oh! — a bit like that! — and the display on it — anyway, the whole thing had burst. And I went to the IT guys here and a gentleman mended my computer, and then he said, "What are you doing here?" and I said "I'm playing the cello and I'm doing a bit of singing," and he said, "Oh, I sort of play the cello as well." And I said, "Do you really?" Anyway, so you're in for a treat, because he's fantastic, and his name's Mark.

♫ Strung in the wind I called you ♫

1:54

♫ but you did not hear ... ♫

2:01

♫ And you're a plant that needs poor soil ♫

2:07

♫ and I have treated you too well ♫

2:10

♫ to give up flowers ... ♫

2:13

♫ Oh, I have been too rich for you ... ♫

2:25

♫ Farther than the sun from me ♫

2:31

♫ Farther than I'd have you be ♫

2:37

♫ And I go north, I get so cold ♫

2:40

♫ My heart is lava under stone ♫

2:44

♫ You are not worthy ♫

2:47

♫ You are not worthy ... ♫

2:52

♫ With your calculating eyes ♫

2:56

♫ spinning figures ♫

2:59

♫ you cannot see me ♫

3:02

♫ You cannot see me ... ♫

3:05

♫ And if I tell myself enough ♫

3:11

♫ I'll believe it ♫

3:14

♫ You are not worthy ♫

3:24

♫ The sea, it freezes over ... ♫

3:28

♫ to trap the light ♫

3:36

♫ And I'm in love with being in love ♫

3:41

♫ and you were never quite the one ♫

3:46

♫ In Gerda's eyes ♫

3:49

♫ Fragments of what you've become ♫

4:11

♫ And all the moths that fly at night ♫

4:15

♫ believe electric light is bright ♫

4:18

♫ You are not worthy ♫

4:21

♫ You are not worthy ♫

4:26

♫ With your calculating eyes ♫

4:30

♫ Spinning figures ♫

4:33

♫ You cannot see me, no ♫

4:39

♫ And if I tell myself enough ♫

4:44

♫ I'll believe it ♫

4:48

♫ You are not worthy ♫

Thank you very much.

Caroline Lavelle plays the cello like a sorceress casting a spell, occasionally hiding behind her wild mane of blond hair as she sings of pastoral themes. She performs "Farther than the Sun," backed by Thomas Dolby on keyboards.
