Our own perspective represents a microcosm of what we already know, what has been discovered, shown to us, digested. While challenging, it is imperative to learn to grow, question always, and listen, look, watch and think. Artists are known for taking information - absorbing what is given - and using it to discern information that is hidden. As an artist Alison believes in stepping sideways, breaking from the familiar, doing something she feels she is incapable of doing, travelling to a place that is uniquely different from her familiar surroundings, in an effort to open, to hear, smell and see things never before seen, to feel different climatic conditions, to see new flora and fauna, hear new music, smell new fragrances, savour new flavors, all in an effort to embrace difference while gaining an enhanced understanding of her more ordinary existence.
