What trash can teach us about ourselves

When we say we are going to “throw something away”, where is 'away'? We have been conditioned to believe that we are separate from our trash, and separate from the world around us. Yet, the facts tell a different story. According to a 2019 study from the Environmental Science and Technology Journal, humans ingest at least 50,000 micro plastic particles every year. The truth is that 'away' does not exist. Away is here, on this planet. And away is inside us. We are our trash. We are invisibly yet inherently interconnected to everything, including our waste. This talk explores how this shift in perception might actually be one of the greatest opportunities of our time. By taking a closer look at the stories we’ve chosen to believe about ourselves and the world, we can begin to reclaim our power to create the world we actually want to live in.
