In a world that is moving fast, it's vitally important to be courageous, take risks and Jump In! Jumping In brings with it a greater chance for both success and failure, and there is much to be learned from both. Join us as we explore how Just Jumping In is making a difference in our world, today and for the future. We recognize that “jumping in” looks different for everyone. That anything that has ever made a positive impact on our world happened because someone was willing to take action. So, this event, at its core, is a Call to Action.

TEDxEncinitas brings together experts from a wide range of fields to create, share, and stimulate dialogue about making Encinitas the best it can be. Attendees of TEDxEncinitas represent a diverse cross-disciplinary mix of people, ranging from civic and business leaders to professionals, educators, technologists, entrepreneurs, artists, and more for a stimulating day of presentations, discussions, entertainment and art that will spark new ideas and opportunities for all. Being a part of TEDxEncinitas is an opportunity to share ideas and experiences with this amazing cross section of people.

  • Michael Eselun
    Michael Eselun, a certified interfaith chaplain, serves as the chaplain for the Simms-Mann/UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology. He has worked extensively in oncology, hospice, palliative care and with acute psychiatric patients. He's been invited countless times to speak to students, doctors, nurses, social workers, and faith communities about his work as a chaplain, on death and dying and the spiritual dimension of the cancer experience.
  • Dana Bristol-Smith
    In 2008, Dana Bristol-Smith was inspired by an idea that wouldn’t let her sleep, to work with women who had lost their voices and their way in life. She started a volunteer project which has grown to become Leap to Success, an organization that empowers domestic violence survivors and homeless women to rebuild their self-esteem and self-confidence to reach their greatest potential. Dana has found her true calling and passion in helping women transform their lives.

    She is a San Francisco based ephemeral artist on a mission to change the world one love note at a time. She creates public displays of affection: painted love notes covertly hung on fences and live love note writing events.
  • Christian Sorensen
    Reverend Christian Sorensen, D.D., is the eminent spiritual leader of the Seaside Center for Spiritual Living and a past president and community spiritual leader of the United Church of Religious Science (UCRS) worldwide (now United Centers for Spiritual Living).
  • Felena Hanson
    Felena is a long-time entrepreneur and marketing maven. Her latest venture, Hera Hub, is a spa-inspired shared workspace for female entrepreneurs. This as-needed, flexible work and meeting space provides a productive environment for women who primarily work from home.
  • Alex Kajitani
    Alex Kajitani is the 2009 California Teacher of the Year, and a Top-4 Finalist for National Teacher of the Year. The author of two books, including Owning It: Proven Strategies for Success in ALL of Your Roles As a Teacher Today, Alex is a top authority in teacher-leadership and a highly-sought after keynote speaker who supports and motivates teachers nationwide.
  • Nancy Hughes
    Prior to her work establishing StoveTeam International, Nancy Hughes was a stay-at-home mom. In 2003 she met a young woman whose hands had been burned shut after falling into an open cooking fire. Wanting to help, she transformed a small Rotary club project into an effective international charity that has helped develop local factories to produce life-saving, fuel-efficient cookstoves in the developing world.
  • Laila Al-Shamma
    Laila Al-Shamma is a senior at La Costa Canyon High School in San Diego, California. Throughout high school she has participated in her school’s Gay Straight Alliance, an activist club that helps support LGBTQ teens and works to promote acceptance in the community. Under her leadership, the GSA has expanded tremendously, started new school wide campaigns, and made a significant change in the campus climate for LGBTQ students
  • Alexander Danilowicz
    Alexander Danilowicz, 16, is the editor-in-chief of his high school newspaper, The Augustinian, at St. Augustine High School in San Diego, California. He is an award-winning public speaker and a recurring member on his high school’s Principal’s List.
  • Stephen Wampler
    Founder of the Wampler Foundation, created to give physically disabled youth an authentic outdoor wilderness experience. “One of the first things you’ll notice about me visually is that I’m in a wheelchair, and have Cerebral Palsy. Over the years, I’ve learned to not only live with my disability, but to thrive, and I want to ensure that others have the same opportunity."
  • Helice "Sparky" Bridges
    In 1980, after speaking to over 50,000 people about ending world hunger, Helice "Sparky" Bridges discovered another type of hunger; people literally starving to be appreciated, respected and loved. To solve this problem, Sparky created the “Who I Am Makes A Difference”® Blue Ribbon Acknowledgment Ceremony. This message has now impacted over 35 million people worldwide, eradicating bullying, preventing teen suicide and helping to make dreams come true in a minute or less.

They left their corporate jobs and started a non-profit teaching kids the importance of a healthy diet and now lead a community of health conscious cooks at CookingWithCSA.com.

Corrin has traveled the globe with the San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research as their Senior Conservation Education Research Coordinator leading in-field conservation projects in Vietnam, Mexico, and Malaysia, specializing in education, outreach, and alternative livelihood development. Corrin’s most recent venture, We Thrive Global, is a company committed to empowering movements that contribute to a thriving world.
