TEDxBilbao is a local, independently organized event that strives to re-create the unique experience found at TED, where the world"s leading thinkers and doers congregate to share what they are most passionate about. At its core, the fundamental goal of TED and TEDxBilbao is to foster and spread great ideas. We aim to provide a platform where the smartest thinkers, greatest visionaries, and most fascinating people will be inspired and will have the opportunity to inspire others.! Our conferences main axis is: Imagine Bilbao. This first edition will be held at the Campos Theater in Bilbao on Saturday, November 27th, 2010 and will be centred around the theme: Education for 2109 and beyond.

Peter van Dommele

Sociologist, adviser and horse coach. Peter was licensed as a sociologist at the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands. Since 2002 he is responsible of BetterBeYourself in Spain, the investigation department of the consultancy firm &Samhoud. He combines his work as adviser and horse coach in a unique methodology to realize real change in the functioning of teams and their leaders.

Paul Natorp

Paul Natorp develops leadership and learning culture in teams and organizations by bringing out trust, creativity and responsibility. He combines extensive professional knowledge and experience as a process leader with experience as an entrepreneur, an executive in business life and a background as an Olympic athlete. Paul holds a degree in literature and communication from the University of Aarhus. For the last 4 years he has worked as team-leader, head of studies and leadership consultant at the KaosPilots.

Karen Hill Scott

Dr. Karen Hill Scott is a US renowned child development expert whose start as a preschool teacher evolved into a wide-ranging career blending university teaching, research, consulting, and public service. She co-founded Crystal Stairs, one of California’s largest non-profit child development agencies; still teaches part-time at the UCLA School of Management; and contributes to child development policy through consulting and public service. Karen has provided content consulting on more than 1000 episodes of produced children’s television. She is the chief educational consultant for NBC/Ion Networks and is working with the Baby Einstein company on a new DVD Series. She previously consulted for Discovery Kids (on NBC), Nickelodeon, the Disney Channel and the Jim Henson Company.

Kwela Hermanns

Kwela is a highly focussed, process-oriented entrepreneur and innovation specialist with many years of business experience in education, research, training and project management in the creative industries. She is bi-lingual in English and German, owns a Masters degree in New Media Studies and trained in small business innovation at Copenhagen Business School. Kwela coaches and trains people and organisations in goal implementation and dynamic change management techniques.

Ricard Huguet i Gali

Ricard ha trabajado para varias multinacionales en el sector de las tecnologías de la información antes de ser director de innovación de la ciudad de Barcelona, con el rol de promover, dar visibilidad y conectividad a la innovación. En la actualidad es socio fundador de Invenio learn.by.doing (www.learnbydoing.eu) que colabora con empresas e instituciones para promover la innovación, la creatividad y el talento entre los jóvenes. Invenio learn.by.doing ha inoculado el virus de la innovación en más de 250.000 jóvenes en España y trabaja para desarrollar una sociedad más innovadora, con talento y espíritu emprendedor. Ricard es fundador del MIT Enterprise Forum, Vice-Presidente del MIT Club of Spain y Presidente de la fundación Scientia (www.firstlegoleague.es). Ricard es licenciado en Farmacia y en Ciencias Empresariales ý tiene el título de Master of Science in the Management of Technology por el Masachussets Institue of Technology (MIT).

Antonella Broglia

Born in Italy. A lawyer that never exercised as such, she has been working in marketing and advertising for 30 years. First, at Darcy Masius Benton & Bowles as Account Director, WW Client Service Director (developing projects in UK, USA, France, Turkey, Scandinavia, Greece, Portugal, Morocco, Egypt, Brazil, Argentina, Russia), and Business Development Director. Then at Ogilvy&Mather, as CEO of the Rome office. And finally she has been CEO and Vice President of Saatchi & Saatchi Spain from 1999 to 2006, and member of the European board. In 2006, Antonella started a collaboration with the famous Barcelona think tank Infonomía. Here, she studies the impact of technology and scientific discoveries in business and communications, and helps blue chip companies to develop their innovation strategies. Together with the Founder of Infonomia, Alfons Cornella, Antonella has created four years ago a special conference named Update. Update explains to managers and entrepreneurs – in 10 ideas and many examples- emerging technologies, management trends, new business models, and experiences on the edge in business, retail, tourism, education…. She blogs about good business books and other good readings at www.losbuenoslibros.com. Antonella is co-organizer of TEDXMadrid, and speaks at different TEDx events in Spain and Mexico.

Pablo Garaizar

Pablo Garaizar (@txipi) is a Computer Engineer and Psychologist born in Bilbao. Pablo splits his work day at University of Deusto between Faculty of Engineering and DeustoTech Education research unit. As a lecturer, he is specialized in GNU/Linux, Computer Networks, Web Development and Computer Security, but also actively involved in research projects regarding causal learning processes (in collaboration with Helena Matute and Miguel Ángel Vadillo from Labpsico), Internet-based research (in collaboration with Ulf-Dietrich Reips from iScience), and exploring new ways of using Information and Communication Technologies to enhance learning at Catedra Telefónica-Deusto and DeustoTech Education research unit. During the last three years Pablo has been the technical coordinator of the ALUD 2.0 project, a Moodle-based e-Learning platform with competency evaluation support, compliant with the University of Deusto’s Learning Model. An unexpected outcome of this effort was the creation of a start-up company focused on Technology Enhanced Learning called Edooca, were 4 former members of the project provide technological solutions for educational purposes. At the same time, Pablo has been involved in the Basque Moodle community, hosting the MoodleMoot Euskadi 2009 and collaborating with the organization of different editions of this event from 2007 to 2010. Being an active supporter of free software and free culture movements, Aprendices was a wonderful discovery for him, where sharing knowledge is the standard way of interaction.

Alfonso Martinez Cearra

Alfonso Martinez Cearra es ingeniero industrial por la Escuela de Ingeniería de Bilbao y fue responsable de áreas ejecutivas técnicas y de gestión en empresas industriales durante diez años en los sectores de sistemas de seguridad, máquina-herramienta, aislamientos y automatismos. En 1989, fue nombrado Director General de Promobisa, sociedad de promoción y desarrollo del Ayuntamiento de Bilbao. Como tal, participó en la elaboración del Plan Estratégico para la Revitalización del Bilbao Metropolitano y fue vocal representante del Ayuntamiento de Bilbao en la Junta Directiva fundacional de la Asociación Bilbao Metropoli-30, de la que es Director General desde 1992. Es director y profesor de cursos sobre Liderazgo y Estrategia de Ciudades impartidos por Bilbao Metropoli-30 y diversas universidades. Asimismo, en función de su cargo, participa frecuentemente en congresos y seminarios sobre desarrollo de ciudades, especialmente en Europa, EE.UU. y América Latina. Sus áreas de experiencia en el ámbito del desarrollo de ciudades abarcan sectores relacionados con sociedad, urbanismo y economía, además de tecnología, medio ambiente, cultura y recursos humanos, colaborando habitualmente con gobiernos y empresas en estudios e investigaciones de planificación y reflexión estratégica. Sus últimos trabajos se centran en la promoción de los valores como nuevo paradigma del desarrollo de las ciudades.

Turukutupá Rezikletas

Formada en 2007 en Vitoria-Gasteiz por los músicos Sergio López de Landache y Víctor García de la Torre con la intención de desarrollar un proyecto de reciclaje artístico sonoro. En Agosto de 2008 estrenan el espectáculo REZIKLETAS en el que cuatro actores-músicos montados en bicicarros realizan un espectáculo de calle itinerante en el que todo el material acústico proviene de la reutilización y el reciclaje.

Maite Goñi

Maite Goñi (@euskaljakintza) has a degree in Basque Philology from the University of Deusto and another in English Philology from the UPV-EHU. She is currently a lecturer at Mondragon Unibertsitatea (working in the field of ICT in education) and a teacher at Jakintza Ikastola in Ordizia (teaching Basque Language and Literature). Her work focuses mostly on applying new technologies to the teaching and learning process. She is also involved in the creation and spreading of Basque content (exercises, articles, interviews…) on the Net with her students. In 2005 she created the euskaljakintza.com project which has won, inter alia, the Espiral Edublogs Award (classroom best blog) , and the Diariovasco.com award (best personal/associative web). She is also dedicated to ICT training for teachers, gives talks and collaborates in other digital media and in the Basque public radio, all of them on current issues related to the Internet. Maite is passionate about education, new technologies and words. Seeking to combine them all, she has carried out several projects, two of which are Gaurko Hitza , the Word of the Day in Basque, a personal dictionary with its own blog, videos contributed by friends (each describing their favourite word), and presence on Twitter and Facebook, and Hitzapasa a game based on the well-known “The Alphabet Game”. Greg Rivera

Artistscientist and evolutionary systems designer Presently developing a network of InnovaLabs and Fab Labs worldwide. Member of the work group at DenokInn: The Basque Centre for Business and Social Innovation. Present projects include the Social Innovation Park, HIRIKO: The electric car and LifePark. Pioneer prototyping specialist in the development of the first commercial head-mounted display in the virtual environments industry at LEEP Lab Systems in Boston. Contracted with Small Business Industrial Research (SBIR) to co-develop various inventions with NASA?s Ames Research Center and NASA?s Langley Research Center. Projects and research presented in U.S., Vietnam, Austria, Mexico, India, Ghana, Canada, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Germany, Japan, Australia and Monaco. In 2005 Rivera received his doctoral degree from the School of Consciousness and Transformation at the California Institute of Integral Studies. His dissertation explored how artscience, in a social computing context, presents transdisciplinary ways of knowing to transform organizational culture. Additional academic work includes the MIT Media Lab, Harvard University, Antioch University, Goddard College and Pratt Institute.
