Welcome to TED 2013, a thrilling journey that features the largest number of speakers in TED's history — more than 70. That's because many of the talks this year are shorter. Often 12 minutes or less, instead of 18. And nearly half of the program comes from our first-ever global talent search. Events were held in 14 cities around the world and attracted thousands of applicants, including some truly astounding youngsters.

Bringing them together has created a fast-moving program covering an incredible variety of topics. At the same time we've been able to drill deep on some of the biggest issues the world is facing.
